How much is an average homeowner insurance annual cost nowadays on Long Island? I am set to close my single family house within the township of Brookhaven, the home price is approximately 850k, and I was getting quotes from a numerous insurance companies, and geico came to the top at $6k.

Way too high. Geico itself doesn't do homeowners insurance, they use a third party. We have Sage Sure for homeowners through Geico and pay 1400 a year for a home worth 840K. Of course this assumes the home is not in a flood zone or some other insurance issue that raises the premium.

That's more like it probably 1500-2200 for a 850k house not in a flood zone is more the norm. 6k is a Florida rate!

I just closed at $2500 for $1m in coverage on a $1.2m house.

I’m not sure who geico used maybe 3 years ago but I bundled than 45 days later they dropped me after I sent pics of everything. They said my hot water showed signs of rust and they cancelled my insurance because of the risk it will leak. I went back to Whom i originally used. Such a hassle to save 200 dollars just for them to deny my coverage. Hopefully they got better now. Long story short the heater lasted 3 years and only got replaced after I converted to gas.
Yea that quote was absurd. We had no claim history and the property itself isn't in flood zone. But I guess taking another 30 minutes to shop around isn't a bad thing (versus their famed "15 minutes could"). So I will be using another company at approximately $2,500 annual with just the basic coverage. Also, I will no longer insuring our vehicles with gecko.
I had Kingstone. No complaints. But…like every other company they did the yearly increases. Started off at I believe $1100/1200 a year and was at around $1500 when I sold 4(5?) years later. At $700 a year now for pretty much the same exact house with Geico but I moved out of the communist republic of NY.
But yeah, I’d do Kingstone again, they were good. Had them during Sandy as well with a different house. No problems with claims or getting paid.
