We always pay our own, with or without a mortgage. It is 4 times a year. School in 2 payments and general in 2 payments.

Sounds like you're in Nassau County. In Suffolk County, we get one bill. First half is due in January, the second half in May.

Actually suffolk county or at least huntington county said I can make more installments between may and january. So not necessarily two payments.

You can absolutely do that…. With penalties and interest. It’s 2 payments or 1 in Suffolk.

In the nicest way possible just escrow it at this point. This is to complicated.

exactly I'd rather put that money towards other things.

and in the nicest way possible maybe you shouldn’t judge other peoples financial situations until you truly know the whole story

I’m not judging. It will simply be easier to escrow and you won’t have to worry about it.

Your saying the county of Huntington said you can make installments. There’s no county of Huntington. There’s no installments as far as I know without penalties and fees.

Your about to close you said so a decision needs to be made. Was just saying escrow it be done and forget about it.

When I still had mortgages I felt it was just easier and more convenient to do escrow.
One less bill to worry about, let the bank handle it.

It’s personal preference. Payments change with the taxes every year. Not a big deal. You can argue for both sides.

The only thing should be if your not responsible (sadly are lot of people aren’t) then you really should escrow.

I don’t escrow because my bank didn’t offer it years ago. Now they do and i asked why they said to many people were not paying their taxes. I stand on line twice a year for 10 minutes and pay in person. I don’t mail the check because it could in theory be stolen and cashed then I got to pony up 20k (10k that was stolen and needing to be reimbursed and the 10k to cover my taxes).
Why don’t you just pay your taxes online ? I’ve been paying mine online for about 10 years now
