Looking to buy a decent set of all season tires for a family SUV. Nothing fancy like Michelins, but better than the stock tires.

Some online reviews dont like Costco, and there are no Discount tire outlets on the island.

My mechanic told me to buy tires at Mavis Discount Tire for my SUV because he thought I would save money. After I bought the tires from Mavis and told my mechanic the price he said he could have ordered the same tires for about the same price.

Tire Rack.com tons of options for every car including specials. You can ship them to your house or directly to a tire shop and schedule the install on the site.

I'll need a new set soon and so have been getting estimates at mechanics' shops, tire places, and big box stores. Walmart seems like the best deal to me, but then I'm not one of those with a thing against Walmart.

Does Walmart install the tires or only sell them? I don't know of any Walmarts that have auto repair shops on Long Island.

I don't live on LI, but they install them in the auto center near me -- and it's not even a "Super Walmart."

They install them. Actually, one time, I needed a tire for my 2011 Santa Fe and went to STS. They charged me $200. Within a year, that tire got a flat so I had to replace it. I looked online and found the exact same tire (Toro?) for $85 at Tires Direct. I bought 4 of them for $340. I got them and went to Walmart, who mounted and balanced them for $15/ tire. So, $400 for four tires instead of the $800 I would have been charged locally.

This^^^ In my opinion it is better to use a shop that does nothing but tires - less chance of "misbalanced" tires, overtightened lug nuts, etc. I've used Tire Rack multiple times with satisfactory results.

I second All Weather Tires.
Family business. Have been going there for decades and always happy with their prices.
