Today’s November 1 and I looked online to sell what my new school tax bill will be, but it’s still not updated and posted. Usually they start collecting property taxes Oct 1, but with Covid, this year they’re extending the start date on Nov 1.
Does anyone know when this information will be available ?
Does anyone know how much of a school tax hike we’re getting in Nassau County??
It’s posted I saw my old house. Thank goodness I moved my old 1800 sq ft 1950s split in 5 years will be 22-23k maybe a hair Moore. I’m paying 16,100 for 3100 sq ft new construction 4 miles down the road in Suffolk. Absolute joke the Nassau reassment.
Does Nassau automatically raise the taxes on a house when it's sold, or does the assessment rise or fall regardless of who owns it? The owner of the house I sold in NC began paying $1,200 more in school taxes after assessment.
The tax here in the state I moved to rose a few hundred when I bought the house. Previous owners have a protected discount which ends when the home is sold.
BTW, my increased yearly tax bill is about $2,084 for a 1,230 ft home.

No, currently, on Long Island properties do not get reassessed upon a sale.
Nassau County has done a massive overhaul of their assessed values; the attempt was to more fairly assess property values - Nassau residents' opinion of the result is divided...

My old palce is unique as it’s owned by a religious organization and pays no taxes. It shows what the full tax rate is after the phase in that takes 5 years. Went from 14k to 20k. It will be higher as it doesn’t account for the yearly hikes. It’s disgusting

Thanks, Elke. So this means I'd be paying the $1,200 in extra school taxes if I still lived in the old house. Apparently, this tax protection for established homeowners is more the style in the West, per California's Proposition 13, et al.
The problem is, people are encouraged by the cheap taxes to stay in their homes forever, and turnover is even more of a problem. Also, school systems get squeezed.
I called TOH today asking that same question. They don't know when you will be able to pay your bill online. He did say that you can see the amount you will be billed on mynassauproperty.com.
My school taxes went from $7000 last year to $7800 for this upcoming year.
