The developer looking to build the OJC nursing home didn’t seem to be any great loss to the community either.

I still remember all the crying about Costco coming to Oceanside and how bad traffic is going to be. Waukeena remains the only truly miserable, unavoidable road if your going that way.
I remember the Costco traffic doomsday messages. I'm sure there is some measurable difference, but not the gridlock that some were crying about and not even really distinguishable from Long Beach Road on any other weekend.. With OJC we all knew something else would come, but I think people can't see the fallacy in their arguments regarding traffic being worst with school start/end and then demanding development which is almost guaranteed to be filled with school children. Some others just seemed to have the classic issue of feeling that land they don't own should never be developed because it would hurt the view, despite only having that view because the same organization previously sold off land to build the houses they live in today.

I like to read old threads. Have property values nosedived? How much do property values have to be up in order to “nosedive”?

You know, because opening a Dollar Tree will cause people to hop on a bus or train to visit our unimpressive little hamlet.

After hating on any proposed commercial occupancy, the complaints then turn to the number of vacant storefronts. And nobody seems to understand the irony of it.
…because people aren’t dumb. The same **** happened/happens in community after community and everybody has either experienced it or heard stories from immediate/extended family in the NYC area.

Works the other way around too except it’s called gentrification.

They have done the exact opposite. Mr. Hotkarl has been whining about how Oceanside has gone down the tubes on this site for 10+ years.

Oceanside is getting less attractive over time but that doesn’t mean prices will collapse. The town is just attracting a less wealthy resident.
