i took the physical for the local 361 & 40 in july and passed, they then gave me a letter saying that im good for the apprenticeship August 2016 according to the waiting list , any body else got that letter? ITS ALL I THINK ABOUT!!!
local 40 ironworkers as of january 2014 period 81, make 46.75 after taxes as a journeysman. foreman makes 47.75. this is after the 3 year apprenticeship. so sick of seeing wrong answers and undirect stuff on youtube and google.
Speaking of wrong answers:
Prevailing wage is made up of Wage + Supplemental Benefits. Both are listed on the PW Schedules by county.
Nassau Journeyman makes from $85-$112/hr. Apprentices start at approx. $42/hr.
This is why the taxpayer is getting killed on public works jobs. Great work if you can get it though.
^^ Keep in mind those numbers are for their entire package per hour. Including health, pension, disability, vacation, etc.
I get it. It's tough to survive I know. The $130k kindergarden teacher and the $220k iron worker. My buddy the teamster sits in his truck for $85/hr and is NOT allowed to lift a finger. Let's think about the "Electrician-Maintenance" who gets paid $56.76/hr to install a lightbulb. Yeah, this system is a picture of efficiency and a benefit to John Q. Taxpayer. It's good the public works projects are known for coming in on time and under budget too or I'd really feel like a jerk.
OK, cue the same old choir of "it's the wealthy and the banks killing us, not the little guy in his little union." The whole system is broken and it's forced the unions get what they can. Unfortunately it just leaves more crap to roll downhill onto the private lower-middle income wage earner and the small business person. We need complete tax overhaul. I'm always spouting about the need for infrastructure stimulus and that would be a big boon to the unions so I am all for that as it keeps the money local but c'mon, $56/hr to turn a bulb defies logic and reason.
