I think the time when an EV vehicle will be the preferred method of travel is when the likes of GM, Ford, VW, Hyundai, Toyota and others release a car/suv with a starting price of around $25k and the charging stations are prevalent to the point of being all over the freeways, interstates and at every Walmart and major grocery store and more. Also in areas of downtown shopping areas and parks and such. Also the battery systems providing at least 300mi per charge or more (almost there now). Then and only THEN will it make so much sense gas powered vehicle owners won't be so threatened. They will certainly appreciate losing the continual needed oil changes, worries about their transmissions and fluid changes or blowing a rod. LOL

I think it will take more than that. I think a range of about 600 miles because EV's should not be charged more than 80-90% or fall under 10-20%(depending on model). In addition they lose a lot of capacity in extreme cold between 12% and 41%. 300 miles is more than enough if you don't do road trips or have another car that can handle it but 600+ miles is probably going to do more because it would be better for road trips and hopefully allow enough used cars with A reasonable amount of range left to be available for the used market. The other advantage is that such a battery would probably charge very quickly up to 300 miles because batteries charging speed slows down as the battery nears capacity(Which is also a reason why you don't want to charge past 80% on road trips....it takes much longer to get the final 10% than it did to get the other 80%). On cost yeah the price needs to come down and 300 miles for 25K or less would help a lot!
