I can also tell the Democrats have their union minions posting all over social media. I know it's them because they all use the same figures and arguments, almost verbatim.

I voted for Pritzker in 2018 and I'm undecided on the Fair Tax Act. Maybe someone could help make up my mind ?

I'm on IL disability, and if I play my cards right, Covid-pending, I won't have to renew it, and I'll fully support myself. It was during Rauner's administration that I avoided applying for welfare out of morality---I didn't want free money that the state didn't have. But through an unfortunate turn of events, fiscal and otherwise, I applied for disability against my will, as well as food stamps, while Rauner was still in office.

What I don't understand is how one could even listen to Rauner speak and trust him? He did nothing to reduce the deficit, no? At least Pritzker has a small step toward reducing the deficit with the Fair Tax Act. If it were passed, could there be an exodus of Republicans?

A year ago, my generation was deeply prejudiced against the baby boomers. I still hold this prejudice, though I am not vocal about it, and I wish I better respect for my parents' generation, Ok Boomers? I don't want to be a hater. And as much as I want to be like "Yea, itt's a free country, you can hoard all your wealth and be as greedy as you want, and that's all well and good," I cannot make the intellectual leap to sympathize with the lifestyles of the upper middle class, with a house and a lawn too large and a ride too expensive to begin to learn elegance. You need to walk the streets and interact with your fellow human beings in order to learn elegance in Illinois. "Money can't buy you class," as a housewife once sang

The pension situation is, admittedly, above my understanding. But if you got the wealth, and don't want to pony up and pay to help reduce the deficit, why not move to a neighboring state that doesn't have a deficit? The idea that we're trillions in debt is an immense burden to me, but I'll be moving because I can't own a firearm for 5 years here, but I digress.

Can someone discuss more of the specifics of the bill and illustrate where I should be weary of corruption?

I'm not willing to entertain any state-level 'revenue raising' scheme until the state government gets a handle on the pensions and expensive redundancies. It's unspeakable that they would have the nerve to even propose something like this when they have done NOTHING about the actual problem here. Illinois Democrats ALWAYS have a 'revenue problem.'

^^^^Yes, and since I posted, Hiruko, I looked into the bill a little bit. It just seems excessive.

I will say this, as blue as my bleeding liberal heart may be, the corruption and mismanagement of Illinois democrats never surprises me

Yes the Dems made no serious attempts at reform and they have their knees on the neck of this state already with taxes. I might have considered voting for it if 1. I actually had a nanogram of trust in our government and 2. Saw they were making serious reforms to bring the cost of govt in line with competently run states. Since neither is the case I voted against it and straight Republican in the election.

Voting no.

All for social safety nets but I don’t believe even the “millionaires and billionaires” should be paying nearly 10% of their income for the privilege of living in the state of Illinois, in addition to the top federal rate of 37%.

Plus every other ridiculous tax we all pay.

Rather there should be a viciously ruthless audit of every dollar spent at every level of government.

Does anyone have a link to exit polls are voting trends on the graduated income tax? They have to clear 60% so I'm curious how polling is going so far. I can't find anything on google besides Illinois policy.
