What are your thoughts on the next five years in Illinois. I plan on staying to finish out a career in the area and then would like to move out of state.

Sorry about typos in poll. fat finger syndrome.

We are stuck for a while because my kids are in school and my husband's job.

The last four years have been a mess, but at least we didn't have a depression like 2008-11. Hopefully Pritzker can do a better job. Maybe Madigan can be deposed as Speaker. The State has advantages even corrupt and inept politicians can't destroy. That said, if a great job opens up outside IL, I'd be a fool to turn it down.

I am staying for the long haul. However, I would be open to relocating elsewhere. I have lived outside of Illinois before, and I know that there are very nice less expensive and more effectively governed jurisdictions in which to reside. I just have too many connections to the state—it's home. Building new relationships in new places is just such a pain.

If Pritzker wins, we're outta here.

I'm recently retired and working on selling real estate. Should be gone by next summer, and have not even decided on a place to go to other than "Other". Hopefully, we don't have a recession by then which will tank the IL housing market. A full-blown 2008 event (or much less, even) will be catastrophic for the state, and I sure don't want to be around for that.

The problem is that the damage has already been done (a huge debt built up over the last thirty, and more consequentially, the last fifteen or so, years) and there is no other "fix" than for residents to stay and pay up. Even without a recession, taxes are going to have to go up significantly to pay for this damage, and to be honest, as a lifelong resident, living around Chicago is just not "worth it" to me. For those who make enough money or have so much family and friends here that they can't consider moving, get ready to cut your discretionary spending significantly in order to pay the increased taxes.

I have a very good job and in my field it is nearly impossible to get a good job in my profession. I am stuck probably until I am able to retire at which point I will be so out of this state. Until then I am maxing out my traditional 401k.

Property values have already declined significantly in Illinois.

Where specifically, and when did this happen?

I don't think you'll get a very honest response here, most folks here just like to vent and complain
