I love the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region. I think Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati have a lot to offer, to each his own.

Regarding property taxes, Hinsdale hardly relies on the state for public school funding as is. Only ~4% of the public school system is financed by the state. Public school funding is ~75% of my property tax bill. Diminished state funding will have a minimal impact on my tax bill. The other areas more reliant on state funding will certainly take a hit though.

Keep in mind that the relative size of the various pieces of the pie can also have an immediate impact on programs and facilities (etc.) if the state pulls the plug. Looking at the ‘other state aid’ (etc.) entries, you are still looking at a 2-3 million dollar shortfall to a K-8 district.

We just closed on our new house in Munster, Indiana after living in Orland Park for 25 years. Good Riddance to Illinois and its endless corruption. Things are going to get much worse across the state but fortunately the smart ones are leaving now.

Sure, it would have an impact but a few million across 5,500 households is a relatively small increase. Especially, when some households are already paying $20,000+/year, what's another $500-600/year?

I hear you loud and clear on that part <side glance at my recent property tax bill>.

Those numbers may not be stomached for long though, even by those able to accommodate such increases.

New York, Michigan and California and have all faced financial issues and not everybody left the state. Somehow someway, Illinois will recover.

Wishful thinking on your part. Unlike Michigan, New York and California the financial crisis in Illinois is occurring during boom times and you won't get a federal bailout like New York did in the 70s or Michigan in 09.
Just sit back and watch it all collapse. A lot of lessons to be learned.
