True. And it's worth noting that even Kentucky is not "The Deep South" by any definition. The South, yes, but not The Deep South.

Yes, but I also followed it with this: " . . . Central Illinois is far more Chicago Northern than Kentucky Southern - which is different than the old Colonial South" -- aka Deep South.

Yep. I was agreeing, hence my use of "and" rather than "but".

It reallyyy sucks to be poor here however. I'd rather be poor somewhere else.

We are currently living in Iowa which is a lovely state and I do like living here however, we are moving back to Illinois within the next year. It was going to be Tennessee but those plans got changed and I am grateful and will be happy to be back in Illinois.

That is the main problem with IL. What I think is people that live in Chicago don't quite understand. They say we have great roads, great school, great everything. Well, the rest of IL is rural without all the greats and big property taxes, taxes are high on everything and it all goes to Chicago. I lived twice in the Northwest corner of the State. It is beautiful there and we are considering moving back but those taxes make me think more than twice.

some guy above was going on and on how great everything was and wages too. He probably is a Chicago person because a good portion of your State is Ag/Diary farmers and they are not rich. I lived in Diary country and the roads were not all that great. Like I said that part of IL is beautiful though.

I think everywhere has pluses and negatives. We are house hunting in Maine now. Will the grass be greener? That remains to be seen. I'm tired of hearing about the shootings nearly every day in the news and taking care of the aftermaths in the various hospitals I've worked at.

Few understand anything about Illinois. Not the cost of living in an Alpha city. Not the physical size of the state or its population. Not the many thousands of miles of roads that connect city, town, village, township and farm. Not the landscape that alternates back and forth between cliffs with heavily forested rolling hills and Plains from North to South.
