Merry Christmas, porchers and lurkers! And Happy Holidays, too! And felicitous Solstice! No white Christmas for NID this year, as far as I can tell from the Gold Hill webcam in Sandpoint. But I'm reasonably confident that the snow will return...

It looks like you got your wish! Plus, the Bonner Ct Daily Bee says that extreme cold is coming. Stay safe and warm, NID'ers!

Schweitzer has had 23" in the past 72 hours, and it's still coming down today. Still, they only have about 40% of the mountain open.

We've had a total of 25" here in Sagle, so still a slow start to the winter. The forecast is calling for temps well below 0 this weekend.

I hope the recent weather pattern continues!

Dave

Two days before Christmas in 1975 I finished painting a roof, wearing only a flannel shirt.
The next day, it began to snow. And the snow never let up until nearing the end of May, 1976.

I just found an old photo I took of a truck that shows fresh snow up to the middle of the truck's hubcaps- about 10" or so of snow. Throughout that winter, many warm spells came and melted most of the snow off, but never all of it. But there was always another snowfall that came, then another and another. Each dropped as much as the last.

I think this winter could become one that's similar.

Yep, we finally got a good dumping on. And -7 is forecast for the HIGH tomorrow, with -17 as a low tonight and -20 tomorrow night. Then a very slow "warming" trend. I don't recall those kind of numbers over the last several years.

If the El Nino lurking in the Pacific has its way, we may be in for a good drubbing!

Gonna see some -24 to -28 for a couple days for lows. That's cold even for me. LOL. Got around 12-14" of snow this go 'round. Biggest issue is the frozen roads and my bald-ish all terrain tires. Haha.

I guess the USDA made a mistake when they moved us form zone 5 to zone 6. We were just a couple of degrees away from qualifying for zone 4 last night. My suggest is to not get all happy about the zone change and go out and buy zone 6 plants.

USDA changed all the zones to account for "global warming". Of course since there is no global warming (if anything, the long-term trend is cooling, as is obvious if you don't truncate the data at 1970), the zones are now all incorrect.

So subtract one whole number from the "new" zones and it'll be correct again.
