I think a lot has to do with people who grew up around these regional chains. Yes, people from all over that never grew up around them can and will like various chains as well, but the rabid fanboys and fangirls who grew up on In-N-Out or Whataburger or White Castle or Cook Out or Freddy's or Krystal or Culver's or Blake's Lotaburger or name the regional burger chain, will fight you to the death!

I'd say the location plays a big part too. I've had a similar experience with many loved regional chain restaurants. the first time I ate at In-N-Out and Culver's was apparently at a location that wasn't so good and I left very unimpressed. Hopefully the owners of both will take pride as far as staff and training instead of them becoming just another burger joint.

Whataburger, Jack In The Box, In N Out Burger....all average food. I'd honestly take Jack's over all of those. They're all over rated burger chains that are treated as iconic food destinations.

Someone mentioned Cook-Out. I really wanna try them.
Whataburger's pricing is competitive and its ALWAYS ranks high with any burger chain. Hell, First Lady Melania had to get one when she visited Texas last year. lol

Maybe it was just this location. The hamburger patty was only about 1/8" thick, and the bun was "doughy", like it hadn't been cooked enough. The fries were decent though.

two words - spicy ketchup. It's wonderful.

whataburger isn't necessarily the greatest tasting burger - but dang it - they fill you up. And the shoe string type fries are pretty daggum good.

Whataburger will begin construction soon on its first-ever restaurant in Huntsville, with Madison to follow shortly.

The company plans to break ground next Tuesday at 9 a.m. on a restaurant at 11701 South Memorial Pkwy in Huntsville. The restaurant should be open this fall, the company says.

Earlier this week, Whataburger opened its first Decatur restaurant and expansion will continue with a groundbreaking ceremony for the first restaurant in Madison this summer.

Nothing to do with Whataburger, but it does concern burgers ....

We played golf at Goosepond Lake Course (used to be called Colony) and had lunch at the restaurant a half mile or so past the entrance to the golf course. The burger was the best I've had since I was a child - extremely good. One of my buddies said it started out at 1/2 lb, and I believe it. I took half of it home to have later. And inexpensive, considering the size and quality - the burger, fries, and a beer were just under $10. Try it if you're ever over that way.

Try the new Cheeseburger Bobby's on Carl T. Jones.. Like the condiment bar and all the different sauces and spices they have to offer. Half the price of 5 Guys and so much better. Same strip mall as Dunkin Donuts

Sweet & Spicy Whataburger is very good for a fast food chain. I order them without the cheese though.
Fries are meh. Used to be pretty good.
Shakes are great!
