Not strictly Huntsville (but Nashvile is a suburb of Huntsville ), but they're going to build a new domed stadium for the Titans. I was wondering just recently when they'd build one since Nissan Stadium has a few miles on it.

The 99.7 station had this topic for hours. They said it was great. Flat $500 million by the city taxpayers (bonds) and the rest was whatever the owners wanted to push beyond the original $800 million. Minimum seats is 50k but radio station said it’ll be at least 80k.

Don't know if this site is up to date, but it says the minimize stadium size to host a Super Bowl is 70,000 permanent seats: https://www.athleticbusiness.com/fac...gthy-expensive

I hope it goes through, but within reason of course. Nashville is a big metro and getting bigger every day. They're growing faster than Huntsville, which is pretty fast for the southeast. I suspect the 80,000 number is closer to reality than the 50,000 one.

I seem to recall that the Cowboys stadium was something like $1.5B, which seemed ridiculous at the time. And now, Sofi stadium in Los Angeles was around $5B I think. So Nashville is looking at an expensive project.

Don't know if voters have to approve it, but if they do they voted down light rail a couple of years ago, which was likely something that was needed. I wonder if they'd approve such an expensive entertainment facility, if they get the chance.

A few miles? It's a little over 2 decades old lol. I thought it was weird they're replacing it so soon. Stadiums typically get 30 years out of them before replacing. Some go way longer and do major renovations instead.

I think they just really wanted to jump on the insane stadium band wagon (SoFi Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Allegiant Stadium, etc). It almost guarantees the opportunity to host the Superbowl within a few years of completion.

Yet college stadiums last for decades and decades, albeit lots of maintenance and upgrades during that time.

Default Nashville stadium

That forum doesn’t have a thread or even a mention about a stadium. Must be a meh issue.

I think it was a two fold reason: Not in any order

1) Want to develop other side of the river and increase the tax base over there, with hotels, restaurants, etc moving in to support the new stadium.

2) Taking possession of the old stadium gives them the opportunity to develop that into all sorts of things for downtown.. more more more...

Boom - the real reason. It's status. The American way,

Here lately, I've learned to never say "such and such will never happen", because I've been proven wrong, no matter how silly the idea.

But hanging on to an NFL team, and other pro teams, takes a lot. Look at what used to be the San Diego Chargers. Dealing with a bunch of high-cost prima donnas.

Exactly. The teams have a lot of influence and the cities either cowtow or they move. Plus, Nashville is a pretty large metro but still on the smaller market size relative to the really big boys.
