The fun in "paradise" never ends!

So TECO recommends setting your thermostat at 78. In Tampa, if I set my thermostat at 78, the AC never kicks on (I have a lot of insulation and the shade from a giant oak tree covering my house; yet my bill is still $300+). Which means if my AC nevers cools or turns on, my house turns into a moldy sweat box. In other words, might as well just turn the AC off.

So the solution to avoid $400 electric bills in Florida is to go without AC? Take heed future-looking-to-move-here Floridians!!!!!! Hope you enjoy sweat and mold!

Thanks TECO!

It's not my headline, it's on the article. And it's accurate. Not sure anyone wants a $500 electric bill arriving in the mail. When the highest bill they previously got for years and years was below 300........

”But there are some people looking at their bill and thinking there's no way they can pay it all. Tampa Electric announced Wednesday its plans to donate $1 million to the Share Program. In partnership with the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, people in need can apply to get financial assistance paying their bills.”

”Since January of 2022, we've helped nearly 4,000 people pay their utility bills. So adding a million dollars to that fund, we will be able to help 1,000s of additional people,” she said.”

More like with Auto Ins bills. Mine went up $600 for the year this week.

Let me fix that headline for you:

Tampa residents stunned by their electric bills.

There ya go. You're welcome.

So Tampa residents are not Floridians? Let me fix that for you. They are. And there's nothing wrong with my headline.

Think it goes like this. All Tampa residents are Floridians ( or reside in FL), but not all Floridians are Tampa residents.

Most long time Floridians know to expect higher power bills in the summer, when their ACs are running more thanks to the heat. They may not be happy about the higher bills, but it's not unexpected.

Our FPL bill was higher last month than I ever saw it, but we learned our 15 yr old AC system was leaking freon and working hard, not so successfully to cool the house. Replaced the system, new one ( supposedly more energy efficient) is humming along keeping things nice and cool inside. Will see what this month's bill brings.

Actually, that's exactly the opposite of what this article says. That people are getting $500 bills and are "stunned" by how high those bills are, because they have never gotten bills anywhere near that high. Perhaps $500 electric bills are not "unexpected" or "stunning" to you. You are fortunate.

The definition of "stunned" according to Google:

stunned

adjective
so shocked that one is temporarily unable to react; astonished.
