This was the 3rd try at this bill.....DeSantis vetoed the previous versions...because they were not clear about not amending previous existing alimony agreements.

....puts an end to marry rich....stay rich

"The measure (SB 1416) includes doing away with what is known as permanent alimony. DeSantis' approval came a year after he nixed a similar bill that sought to eliminate permanent alimony and set up a formula for alimony amounts based on the length of marriage."

"Along with DeSantis' veto of the 2022 version, former Gov. Rick Scott twice vetoed similar bills. "

"This year, however, the proposal received relatively little public pushback and got the blessing of Florida Family Fairness and The Florida Bar's Family Law Section, which fiercely clashed over the issue in the past."

"It will allow judges to reduce or terminate alimony, support or maintenance payments after considering a number of factors, such as "the age and health" of the person who makes payments; the customary retirement age of that person's occupation; "the economic impact" a reduction in alimony would have on the recipient of the payments; and the "motivation for retirement and likelihood of returning to work" for the person making the payments."

"Supporters said it will codify into law a court decision in a 1992 divorce case that judges use as a guidepost when making decisions about retirement."

I assume gold-diggers will just manipulate their would-be spouse into getting married in another state to avoid the law.

This is a great way to ensure that women don't leave their husbands, even if it's a bad relationship. So - Florida forces birth on pregnant women, even if the baby is unviable (missing brain stem, heart, severe inoperable deformities, etc) at 6 weeks - too early for most teenagers to even know they're pregnant because of irregular periods at that age. They intimidate women into staying in bad marriages if they were housewives whose skills aren't enough to get a job that pays the bills. They think that men dressing in womens' clothes should be treated as a crime.

Sounds to me like Florida just really hates women.

Equal opportunity employment erased this remember? Women can get the same jobs as men, & make the same amount. Wage disparities come from women who leave the work force to have kids.

This isn't the time of Mrs Ward Cleaver....women command top jobs and top wags now...no more excuses.

Women wanted equality, and now they have it.

Rich men know they stay rich by negotiating a prenup agreement that protects their assets in a way that does not seem punitive to a potential spouse if the marriage doesn’t last.

Many cases women make more than men now and are doing the hiring as well!

I'm sick of feminism.
