Though I lament that I am paid less here than what I would make in similar COL cities, I am happy here. However, I’ve spent my entire working adult life in Florida, so I wonder at times if I should experience living in other areas or if traveling is enough.

I am willing to bet that you learned how to manage "happiness" first, then you came to Florida, which has helped you maintain the process.

Now, if you ever had to leave Florida and still manage to be happy, you will know who you are that much more deeply.

All the best!

Yes, but I have been happy in all the places I have lived.

Yeah my wife says she does not want to be a snow bird, avoiding the cold, she wants to be a sun bird avoiding the heat in Summer.

Just don't care for the year round hot weather. Other than that FL is okay.

If you don't bring it with you, you won't find it here.

I am happy in Florida. We have the beach at the end of the street, a brew pub 2 miles from the house and it beats the cost of living and traffic in the Washington DC area. We have similar summer weather as our kids in Virginia and much better weather in the winter.

I work from home, have a Florida employer and make less money than what I was making with a global company. But the global company laid me off a year after we moved to Florida. To get a similar salary I took a job in Delaware. That was a miserable winter, looking at you phone seeing it is 65 degrees at home and 10 degrees in Delaware. We didn't make through the entire winter and came back to Florida.

Almost everywhere is worse than Florida. Obese folks with diabetes usually complain about the summer, but they have insulation of a walrus and need the type of climate where walrus live to be comfortable.

On a scale from 1 (miserable) to 10 (perfect) I'm at about a solid 7 or 8 with Florida. It has exceeded my expectations for many things - weather, being one. I thought I'd loathe the summers but honestly I don't mind the heat, it's why we moved here to be able to pack up a few things and head 20 mins to the beach! The times I've traveled back west I've found I can no longer stand that dry, arid air. Give me humidity all day, every day, year round.

COL hasn't been as low as expected, but still a vast improvement over where we came from.

My biggest qualm with FL thus far has been the people. We're in NE FL and there are quite a few rednecks in our area and that's just not my people in any way, shape or form. Politics aside, it's an eyesore for me and my family. We probably could have avoided that in other areas but we moved here for the schools (St Johns Co), which are still #1 in the state.
