Unhappy Rudness can be easily witnessed and observed in traffic.

Hiknapster: I agree, people in southern FL are very rude, even worse than in Central Florida. But since I grew up in Orlando, I can attest that most of the rude people are NOT native Floridians, much less Southern people. These people are aliens (legal and mostly illegal) and northern people. It seems like the bulk of the rude ones is from NY and Massachussetts. I kid you not, they are the MOST aggressive drivers in traffic I have ever seen.

It is so bad, I have been working on a "FL traffic survival guide" which I may/may not publish on this forum this week. The level of aggression on the roads and the rudeness of drivers seems to be reaching a brand new level, I am horrified at how much violence I have seen on I-4 just this past 2 weeks. It is like temperatures are going back to summer levels and everyone's "chill meter" is going down and aggression has re-started back up.

Be on the lookout for my guide. I think I need to post it, as this is getting worse and I have already witnessed 1 road rage (get out of their cars and fight) situation and I can tell this hot summer will be another violent one on the roads.

Southern is more of an understanding and state of mind rather than a geographic location at this point.

It' was "Southerners" who comprised much of the original rebellion/American Revolution and it was Southerners who again who fought for independence from the giant hand of government. The second war of Independence was lost of course and since that time the Old South has been ripped off, blended up, and homogenized into nothing more than a memory. A great culture destroyed and blended in with the general ignorance as taught in government mandated schools.

However, Florida, while certainly different from "Georgia, or North Carolina, despite the lack of contemporary so-called "Southerness" particularly in the Southern part of the state, has had in fact much more of that old rebelious history, culture, and mindset than ANYWHERE else in the geographical South.

In my circle of friends - southern hospitality is alive and well....in the general public, it's becoming rare!

Evidently many people hear have never heard of or visited Tallahassee, which is 100% Old South in manners (thank God), accent, architecture....guys it was the only Confederate capital never to fall to Union troops.

And for those that think this means the Dukes of Hazzard (filmed in California), get stuffed - or at least try to leave your Hollywood stereotypes at home, or move to South Florida where you will no doubt be more comfortable.

Uhm...Initially, the show was filmed in Covington, GA and Conyers, GA.
A high budget, not to mention other factors, actually forced them to film the rest of the series on a studio lot in California.

Yeah, despite being a black guy from Massachusetts....I was (and still am) a huge Dukes fan.

We live inland in SW FLorida and I have to say Southern Hospitality is alive and well out here. We are (unfortunately) re-locating to NE Florida and after our most recent trip up there I am really scared and dreading this. Around here, whenever you are driving on a rural road people wave to each other. Up there, they look at you like you are a criminal when you wave to them. Yes, they all have that twangy southern accent but the people we came across were not too friendly. We met 1 friendly local. BTW...I have lived in SW FL my whole life and I don't have a southern twangy accent.

Have to add..their real estate is way overpriced. The prices match South FL. I thought they were supposed to be cheaper. I can't see paying the same price to live in a place that does not even resemble FL to me.

Then I would think that you would understand how stereotypes are harmful and perpetuate ignorance and prejudice.
