Anyone know who sells shorts that do not look like capris for short men? I am 5'5" tall and all the shorts in department stores seem to come below my knees and look like capri pants ha ha ha. Are there standard lengths for shorts?

Yeah-- the shorts they make today look ridiculous.

Your best bet may be to go for the best fitting ones you can find- try really traditional brands- and then have them altered or hemmed up. Pants can be hemmed for 5 dollars round here.

I hope it becomes acceptable again for men to wear real shorts like they did in the 80s. It's time for this below the knee shorts on men to end already.

Hmm. You'd have to go for the preppier brands that cut to just above the knee cap (or higher). Ralph Lauren and J Crew come to mind. However, this limited you to the preppier styles of khaki, seersucker, madras check/plaid, and bright colors. (I like this, but obviously two people will have 2 different tastes)

More common streetwear shorts though will be practically a no-go for you without lots of hemming.

I don't wear shorts except for my own back yard or the beach. I have a pair of khaki "short shorts" but I would never wear them on the street or to go shopping or even to the park. Nobody wants to see my hairy legs.

If you are in shape, you should be able to get one in express.

I get their size 29W shorts all the time. They end right at the midpoint of my knee caps and some better fabric cloth ends even less, like the plaid shorts I'm wearing here. And they also fit well.

Express has shorts all the way down to 26W.

Anyway, I'm making two of my pics public so you have an idea. I'm a shorts geek myself and I have spent ages and ages to find the best shorts that I can proudly wear, as opposed to the plethora of baggy and trashy shorts they sell these days that go well past the knees.

You can try Calvin Klein too

I'll take the album private in 24 hours

I am not sure of how this will come about for your height though. I bet the 26 to 28W will come about fine. I'm 5 9.5 to be exact.

Get them hemmed! If you're a little handy with a needle, you can do it yourself...it's not that hard!!!

It's really easy to hem up shorts. You probably have to get your pants shortened, so just take your shorts to the same place.

And good for you, trying to avoid the man capri look
