Maxi dress for short girls?? (cut, legs, medium, brown)

I went shopping today, and saw a lot of cute maxi dresses.
So I decided to try one on, I didn't realize how short I was, till I try this dress on.
Needless to say, I didn't buy one.
Do you wear Maxi dresses?

I like very long skirts and would wear a maxi dress if I found one that flattered me. Most of them I see are better suited for tall, thin women. I am tall but hourglass-shaped, and those dresses typically don't emphasize my waist. They often have spaghetti straps, meaning my bra will show, and they make my hips look wider than they are. Maxi dresses are for more straight up-and-down shapes, I think.
The vintage maxi dresses from the 1970's were great on short people. They often had empire waists, or high waistlines, which made it looks like the legs were neverending. Combine with a plunge V neckline and floral print, drapy but not clingy fabric, and even us "curvier" short girls looked terrific.

The empire waisted ones work well for pear shapes, too. I'm bottom-heavy, and they're very flattering if they're an empire silhouette with a slight, though not overly emphasized, "A"...anything with a natural or drop waist, though, in a maxi, is not gonna cut it for me, unless I LIKE emphasizing that my pelvis is wider than my shoulders. NO, thanks.
I am 5’3”, neither too long nor too short. I like maxi dresses as I looks more beautiful in it. These are comfortable to wear and also show-up my actual figure.
I just bought a mini maxi which should be here sometime this week or over the weekend. It's more like knee-length rather than down to my ankles, which is fine with me, because being 5' 3", ankle-length skirts simply aren't flattering.

I used to have one that went to the floor. I don't really care for them unless its poolside or around the house. The bottom gets dirty if you wear it in public. My shape only works in floor length, and above the knee.
