Sensationalism is a great place to build stats.
I think anything kept in a pen would go crazy, humans and pets.
No dogs are agressive towards people in nature, none at all. What is it with people being afraid of a dog with muscle? I think that youre just afraid of something with more muscle than yourself eh ? You want something you can dominate, not coexist with.

Heres a quote from a website http://www.fataldogattacks.com/
Quote:
From 1965 - 2001, there have been at least 36 different breeds/types of dog that have been involved in a fatal attack in the United States. (This number rises to at least 52 breeds/types when surveying fatal attacks worldwide). We are increasingly becoming a society that has less and less tolerance and understanding of natural canine behaviors. Breed specific behaviors that have been respected and selected for over the centuries are now often viewed as unnatural or dangerous. Dogs have throughout the centuries served as protectors and guardians of our property, possessions and families. Dogs have also been used for thousands of years to track, chase and hunt both large and small animals. These natural and selected-for canine behaviors seem to now eliciting fear, shock and a sense of distrust among many people.
52 breeds involved in fatal attacks ? How does that set you, do we need to ban 52 breeds of dog now ?

If you get rid of the gang bangers and wannabe's, youll get rid of 85% of dangerous dogs, simple as.

Quote:
Breeds Involved
Pit Bull and Pit-bull-type dogs (21%), Mixed breed dogs (16%),
Rottweilers (13%), German Shepherd Dogs (9%), Wolf Dogs (5%),
Siberian Huskies (5%), Malamutes (4%), Great Danes (3%),
St. Bernards (3%), Chow Chows (3%), Doberman Pinschers (3%),
other breeds & non-specified breeds (15%).
Youll look at that and say 'Pit Bull Type' breeds are the most responsible. YES. But because theyre the most popular breed in America! Higher numbers = higher stats!

Between 1965 and 2001 there were 197 human deaths involving canines. Although all human deaths are tragic, is that really a high enough number to get wound up about ? But im sure sport related deaths are way higher, are we going to ban sports in areas as well. I mean, when adreniline is pumping in humans, they become unpredicatable and do things to hurt people that they normally wouldnt do. Then we need to ban airplanes, cause crashes cause more deaths. Drink driving of course causes more deahts.

But the media has decided to make 'Dangerous Dogs' their agenda for the last few years, and like sheep, people belive the media and follow into a hole.

We stop by this dog's house and visit him every day. He wags his tail and wriggles with pleasure as I pet him.
He does the "play bow" to my dog.
He is very sweet, and very lonely. He is a pit bull.
I'm not saying that every pit is this amiable, but this guy sure is.

Wahhhh
My heart is breaking. Send him to ME! He can get off the stupid chain and have a couch to himself. Some people should be chained and banished to solitary for life.

I have always wanted a black and white (I have experience with the breed). In fact, I was looking for just such a pal when I found my poor pregnant cattle dog at the pound instead (she neeeeeded me!).

Speaking of broken hearts, this was in the local news today:

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...352/-1/ARCHIVE

I wonder, if we started keeping "score" re: Bad Things Humans Do to Dogs VS Bad Things Dogs Do to Humans....who then, really, would be considered the most vicious "breed"???

By this thread i think its who you talk to

Terrible story though. Abandoning ANY breed by the side of a highway is a disgrace.

So, so sad. Makes my blood boil what horrible, cruel people do.

On a happy note ... one of my dogs (along with his sister) was found on the highway and he's going on 12 now.

Pit bulls are generally dog aggressive, not people aggressive. Unfortunately, some backyard breeders now like them because of their "tough" reputations and are "encouraging" human aggressiveness--breeding animals that a dog fighter would never have bred. (Not that dog fighters are good people--it's a cruel "sport"--but they wouldn't want a human aggressive dog, as it would be a hazard to them.)

When a pit bull DOES attack a human--as will happen with dogs of many breeds--the results tend to be horrible because they were bred to "shrug off" pain and never quit. But that doesn't mean all pit bulls are a menace or vicious. They shouldn't be left around other dogs, however, due to their fighting heritage.

You can't just point the finger at pit bulls. Here we had an older man almost die when he was attacked by a cairn terrier. That's the same breed as Toto from The Wizard of Oz.

I agree with LM1313 but want to expand on one thing. You can leave pitbulls and Staffs and pitbull types around other dogs because, for the best part, if you buy from a reputale breeder he has strived to make his litter as animal / human friendly as possible. I socialise my Staff with dogs on a near daily basis, and hes doing great with them. The only way i wouldnt leave a pit with other dogs is if hes not socialised. My baby Staff was attacked by an German Shepheard dog that wasnt socialised. My point being, if you socialise a dog from a young age he will do fine. If you leave him as an adult with other adult dogs after not being socialised, then you will run into problems. But that is said for all breeds. Good post LM1313
