Thanks for sharing, this was very informative. Wish this was better news, though.

The first sizable winter storm is rolling through Mesa County tonight. Winter storm warning for all the western slope through tomorrow. Am watching Fox31 weather and they have said that Vail Pass has just been closed due to blowing snow and accidents in both directions. Grand Junction might just get rain showers out of this but it will snow around 5000 ft. most everywhere else.

And this system will stay in Mesa County until Saturday morning according to NBC affiliate KKCO.

Vail Pass has re-opened.

Denver finally got its 1st snowfall of the season, as did Pueblo - but Colorado Springs was missed yet again.

Plenty breezy tonight over here in Mesa County. KKCO-11 reports gusts up to 40 mph for the most part, Telluride reported a gust at 82 mph. snow showers starting at midnight over here. Nasty driving conditions in the high country for sure.

Hoping for the best with today's forecast - glad to see some snow in the mountains coming if it doesn't all get blown away - hope we can avoid severe damages, out of control fires, etc., from the winds in the forecast.

WaPo is reporting on high winds in the mid-section of the nation and had this to say about Colorado:

"In Colorado, winds are easing after peak gusts reached 107 mph in Lamar, 105 mph in Broomfield, 100 mph at the Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs and 91 mph near Boulder Wednesday morning. Just northwest of Denver, a gust was clocked to 84 mph. Numerous gusts topped 70 mph in the state"

OMG today was awful. I'm in the Wasson neighborhood in Colorado Springs, with the unfortunate combination of very large trees & above ground power lines. My neighbors huge pine tree is on his roof. Another huge pine is laying across the road just 2 blocks from me. My neighbor across the street has 2 trees lying on his roof. Several trees uprooted at Wasson school & Audubon school (that one hit something electric & started a fire). My power went off & 1100 & didn't come back on until almost 7 pm. The one time I tried to venture out, a power line came down in front of me on Holiday Ln. I turned around & a tree branch fell on me while I waiting at the light at Van Buren & Circle. Thank God it didn't come through the wind shield, I just replaced it in June.

My kids' aunt lives about a mile southwest from me by the Longfellow school off Maizeland & her power is still out & may be out for another 2 days.

Winds wallop Colorado causing power outages, hampering travel

A 107-mph gust was reported in Lamar, and widespread areas got into the 80s

https://www.denverpost.com/2021/12/1...0-mph-outages/

"The weather service reported a gust of 107 mph in Lamar on Wednesday morning and at the U.S. Air Force Academy airfield near Colorado Springs 100 mph gusts were recorded just before noon.

“The foothills (generally) had the highest wind gusts,” Wilkinson said. “The plains, although not as gusty, experienced a lot of dust storms and low visibility and the mountains had a lot of blowing snow.”"

When I was a young boy and my family had recently moved from Iowa to Phoenix, my mother would constantly gloat about how nice the winter weather was in Phoenix and how awful winters were in Iowa.

Fast forward 70 years and here I am in California enjoying our mild although currently rainy weather and not missing those 100 mph winds near Colorado Springs one bit.

However, I do wonder if my 29 year old cedar fence finally met its match...
