Philadelphia is a city that outsiders don't get. You have to live in the city to understand it. You either hate it or love it. Either way, Philadelphians do not care.
Tourist stay out of Philly because outside of the center city there is not to look at. Face it, most Philly is an ugly ghetto. Even the suburbs are nicer than actual city.
Boston's world reputation as center of Academia with Harvard and MIT as anchors is unparalled in the US.

Yea I don't get the bashing that Philadelphia tends to get. It's one of the best cities in the country and easily one of the best looking from a developmental standpoint (at least in the core...I know North Philly has some really tough parts). Maybe it's the perception that Philadelphians can be very aggressive, especially in regards to sports...I don't know. Either way, I think it's an unfair assessment from what I've experienced.

Have you spent any time in Philly? Just look around. Yes, it is one of the biggest cities in the country, one of the bset? You got to be kidding
Well DC is right with NYC but # 3 between Boston and Philly would probably be Boston. I think Philly suffers from being in between NYC and DC. If Philly was not sandwiched between NYC and DC, it would probably be 3rd.
I do not think it has anything to do with being between NYC and DC.............
Right?!
Philly is a city of contradictions, grimy, clean, busted, beautiful. I can't think of too many cities that proposes such an anamoly.
Most South American cities, Los Angeles, and Miami, Chicago.
