^ Damn it, jbcmh81 (our Ohio "ex-pat" and dear friend)--just what is it about "CIN-DAY" that remains unclear to you? Numerous posters here (including myself) have tried to make "the obvious" OBVIOUS to you. You are, indeed, ONE intelligent fellow--so what gives? (And please take NOTE--many of us, in our segmented, black little hearts, are actually taking note of Columbus and learning to LIKE IT for the fine city it really is--but please return the favor and look again at those night-time satellite pictures. They don't lie and they do tell a story.) Now go figure.

I'm cool with Columbus and have been going there as early as 2000, shortly after moving to Ohio in the first place. Great city in it's own right.

So if it's so obvious to everyone, why do you think that it hasn't gotten the official designation yet? The residents of Cincinnati do not get to decide this, nor do supposed detractors, so all that seems moot to me. What I don't "get" is that it doesn't meet established criteria right now. I'm not saying it never will, but if requirements had actually been met, it would be already.

Please enumerate. Explain why it doesn't.

^ But you still don't get it, do you? Look again at the night-time satellite pictures and (on your own, minus any stats from anywhere) make sense of what you see. In the end, what do you conclude about "Cin-Day"?

It doesn't matter what I see in this case, because physical development is not the lone factor on how metros are designated. I've seen the satellites (which are cool, btw), but it doesn't actually prove anything, that's what I'm saying. The Census doesn't designate these by gut, so there's no point in me doing so either.

Metros notwithstanding, if the governments numbers are so reliable then how do we explain the drill down done on Cincy a couple years ago:

I think a whole lot of metro's will be jealous when the two are officially joined. Some will still not accept it. Businesses wise it's accepted. That's why there is so many branch offices are covering both areas. They love the larger market.

I actually like Columbus, I think it should be Cincinnati's role model in some ways.

- I like the way how they keep suburban sprawl limited, and it is smart growth that is is showing.

- I like how they don't let areas decay, and seem to know what they are doing in terms of gentrification.

Although I like these factors, I think our current governor is to blame for Cincinnati, along with the other cities in Ohio lagging behind Columbus. Although I can't completely blame government for this since it after all IS the capital. So don't crucify me :P
