I don't check this forum as much as I used to, but I applaud this thread topic. Hopefully it helps change some attitudes.
I have noticed it's just a select few posters who have a limited view of just about all things SW Ohio and really nothing beyond that unless you count the great state of Kentucky (sarcasm in that last bit). Besides that, most posters here are fine.

Also, there's a rumor going around on UrbanOhio that Western and Southern might build a new headquarters at the site next to Queen City Square, and it could be a tall one.

It would make a LOT of sense for Western & Southern to build a new HQ's that could house all their downtown employees. They've got people strewn all over downtown in buildings of varying condition. That's exactly the reason Great American built their tower.

Completely agree. The only thing I don't like about it is the location. It is DIRECTLY across the street from Queen City Square. I think building another tall tower there might throw off the skyline. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It would be great if DHL would rehire the hundreds of people it laid off a couple of years ago, from Wilmington and CVG.

I don't believe DHL can be trusted period.

Speaking of U Square, here are pics of the many beautiful old buildings that were torn down only to stay a grassy field for almost 10 years.... The Cincinnati Monocle: Photos of Calhoun St. and McMillan St. in 2003

I'm glad the old fast food places are gone, and I'm glad the new project is FINALLY getting built, as that grassy field is a major eyesore, but why couldn't they work around the old buildings? These are magificent old structures, and seeing them torn down was appaling, there are tons of cities where one would never be able to get away with stuff like that.

Partial casino collapse downtown today that hospitalized over 20, "recession proof" building materials (cheap/poor quality)... Typical.

If OSHA can substantiate this was due to substandard building practices, I hope they frost them bigtime. Our workers simply should not be subject to such environments, even if no one gets killed. Let's see how significant the injuries are, and how long it may put them out of work.

There could very well be three new towers going up downtown in the next five years:

- A new W&S tower at Third and Broadway that could become the city's "newest tallest." I would love to see Cincinnati build a 60-some story tower that would clearly be the city's tallest and bring a new dimension to the skyline. Thing is, I'm not sure Third and Broadway would be my first choice to locate such a super-tall.

- A 12-18-story tower at The Banks (Second and Walnut) that would be home to a new Dunnhumby USA headquarters and their rapidly growing company

- A long-delayed tower at Fifth and Race which could be residential in nature. A 15-20-story building here would do wonders for that side of downtown.

I'd still love to see Fifth Third finally take action on the long-proposed tower at Fountain Square West that is home to the three-story downtown Macy's. That building was actually built as a pad for a future tower. Fifth Third owns air rights and of all downtown tower location proposals, that would be my favorite. Anyone remember this conceptual design for such a building years ago:
