Ooops is right, good catch Grandstander. It's tough doing these recaps, now I know why I didn't do them last year, LOL.

Default 1-0

D'backs 2 @ Padres 7.

Scoring got started in the 6th; Tommy Pham and Jurickson Profar would draw back to back walks to load the bases after Tatis had a 1 out double, and Eric Hosmer would clear the bases with a 3 run double. Kole Calhoun got the D'backs on the board with a solo home run in the 7th. In the bottom half Pham had a 2 out RBI single and following another Profar walk to load the bases, Hosmer came through again with another bases clearing double to put the Pads up 7-1. According to the D'backs broadcaster that's the first time in Padres history a player had two 2 out bases clearing doubles in the same game. Sounds hard to believe, but then again they are still looking for that elusive no hitter so . Starling Marte had a 1 out single in the 9th, went to second on defensive indifference and scored on a Christian Walker single. Madison Bumgarner (0-1) allowed 3 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts in 5.2. Chris Paddack (1-0) allowed 4 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts in 6 scoreless innings. Emilio Pagan (1st hold) allowed 1 run on 1 hit (the Calhoun home run) with 0 walks and 0 strikeouts in 1 inning.

Game 2 of the series goes Saturday evening; Dinelson Lamet (3-5, 4.07 last year) starts for the Pads against Robbie Ray (12-8, 4.34) for the Snakes. Game time slated for 9:10.

Default 2-0

D'Backs 1 @ Pads 5.

Starling Marte lead off the 4th with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a Christian Walker double 1 batter later. Wil Myers had a 3 run homer in the bottom half to put the Pads in front for good 3-1, and added the final 2 runs in the 7th when Tatis lead off with a double, and Machado had his first home run of the season. Dinelson Lamet (1-0) allowed 1 run on 5 hits with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts in 5+ innings and Matt Strahm (1st hold) and Craig Stammen (1st hold) had 1 strikeout in a combined 2 hitless innings.

Game 3 gets played on Sunday. Garrett Richards (0-1, 8.31 in 3 September starts returning from injury last year) takes the ball for the Pads while Zac Gallen (3-6, 2.81 combined with the Marlins & D'backs) takes the ball for the Snakes beginning his first full season in the desert after coming over from Florida at the trade deadline last season. Richards will throw the first pitch from Petco around 4:10.

Also, I forgot I never made a prediction. I picked them 3rd in the division (behind the Dodgers [1] and D'backs [2]) and with the expanded playoffs I believe they will clinch that last playoff spot in the NL as the 2nd best 3rd place finisher (Reds out of the NL are my first 3rd place finisher) with a series loss in the opening round.

Default 2-1

D'backs 4 @ Padres 3.

Zac Gallen worked around 3 walks in the first, but the Pads would get on the board first with a Eric Hosmer home run. That 1-0 score stood until the 8th where it got good, especially if you're reading this as a D'backs fan. A walk and 2 singles to open the frame tied the game at 1, and even though Emilio Pagan would give up a 2nd run, he averted major damage with the second run scoring on a double play ball. Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers started the bottom of the frame with walks, Jake Cronenworth pinch running for Hosmer went to 3rd ona Jurickson Profar fly out, and Cronenworth scored on a Greg garcia single. Kirby Yates started the 9th with a strikeout but then allowed a single and 2 walks that loaded the bases, Ketel Marte gave the D'Backs the lead for good with a sac fly and David Peralta single put them up 4-2. Trent Grisham singled to lead off the 9th, Archie Bradley struck out Manny Machado and got Tommy Pham to lineup, Grisham scored on a Cronenworth double, but Wil Myers grounded out to end the game. Garrett Richards allowed 1 hit, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts in 5 scoreless innings, Javy Guerra (1st hold), Tim Hill (1st hold), Drew Pomeranz (1st hold) allowed 2 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 2 innings, Pagan (1st blown save) allowed 2 runs on 2 hits with a walk and Yates (0-1) allowed 2 runs on 2 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout. Gallen allowed 1 run on 2 hits (1 home run) with 5 walks and 6 strike outs in 4 innings, Andrew Chaffin (1st hold) allowed 1 run on 0 hits but issued 2 walks, and Bradley (1-0, 1st blown save) allowed 1 run on 3 hits with 0 walks and 2 strikeout.

The finale of the 4 game wraparound series takes place on Monday. Luke Weaver (4-3, 2.94 last year) starts for the D'backs while Joey Lucchesi (10-10, 4.18) takes the ball for the Pads. Game time slated for 4:10.

Default 3-1

D'backs 2 @ Pads 6.

3 out of 4 to open the year, probably couldn't have scripted a better start. Trent Grisham homered for his first home run as a Padre in the first to get them out to a quick 1-0 lead, but the D'Backs got 2 back in the 3rd one on a Starling Marte double and an Eduardo Escobar single. Jurickson Profar walked to open the 4th, Wil Myers followed with a single, and Greg Garcia tied the game with a single. Francisco Mejia was hit by a pitch to load the bases, an Edward Olivares single moved everyone up a base and put the Pads in the lead, and a Fernando Tatis triple followed which cleared the bases and ended the scoring on the afternoon. Luke Weaver (0-1) allowed 6 runs on 7 hits (1 home run) with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in 3.1. Joey Lucchesi allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts in 3.2, Cal Quantrill (1-0) had a walk, hit, and strikeout in a scoreless 1.1.

Padres start their first road series of the year with a 3 game set in San Francisco on Tuesday night. Zach Davies (10-7, 3.55 last year) takes the ball for his first Padres start after coming over from the Brewers and the Pads will take their hacks at the plate against Jeff Samardzija (11-12, 3.52 last year), with game time scheduled for 9:40. Arizona meanwhile continues their road trip as they head to the new ballpark in Arlington for a 2 game series against the Rangers.

Default 4-1

Pads 5 @ Giants 3.

Mike Yastrzemski started the game with a single, went to 2nd on a Pablo Sandoval groundout, and scored on a single by Wilmer Flores. Wil Myers started the Pads 3rd with a single, Francisco Mejia worked a walk, and 1 batter later, Fernando Tatis put the Pads in front for good with a 3 run homer, and they added 2 more runs in the 4th on a Myers 2 run homer. Giants got back-to-back doubles to lead off the 3rd (but somehow weren't able to score on the 2nd, how??) Mauricio Dubon who had the first double scored on a Flores force out, and than Yastremski who had the 2nd double scored on a single by Tyler Heineman, Brandown Crawford stepped up to the plate as the go ahead run, but Matt Strahm got him to fly out to center. Zach Davies (1-0) allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings, Strahm (2nd hold), Javy Guerra (2nd hold), Emilio Pagan (2nd hold) had 2 strikeouts, 2 hits, a walk and a hit batter combined in 3 scoreless innings, and Drew Pomeranz (1st save) struck out the side in the 9th. Jeff Samardzija (0-1) allowed 5 runs on 4 hits (2 homers) with a walk and a strikeout in 4 innings. In other West action: The D'Backs beat the Rangers 4-1, Dodgers beat the Astros 5-2, and the Rockies beat the A's 8-3. That leaves San Diego a half game up on the 3-1 Rockies, Dodgers at 3-2 are 1 back, and the D'backs and Giants both sitting at 2-3 sit 2 games behind the Pads.

The series continues on Wednesday. Chris Paddack (1-0, 0.00) starts for the Pads against Johnny Cueto (0-0, 2.25) with first pitch from Cueto scheduled around 9:40.

Default 4-2

Pads 6 @ Giants 7. Alex Dickerson triples to lead off the 2nd and 2 batters later scored on a Donavan Solano single, and in the 3rd Manny Machado would hit a 2 run homer and Mike Yastrzemski had a solo home run in the 3rd for a 2-2 game after 3. Wil Myers started the 4th with a hit by pitch, and following 2 quick outs, the Pads would get 4 two out RBI’s: After Myers stole second he scored on an Edward Oliveras single, and following a walk to Fernando Tatis, Trent Grisham had a 3 run homer. Dickerson homered to lead off the 6th, Solano had a 3 run homer in the 8th to tie the game, and Yastrzemski had a walk off homer in the 9th to win it. Chris Paddack allowed 2 runs on 6 hits (1 homer) with 6 strikeouts in 5 innings, Tim Hill (2nd hold) had 1 strikeout in 2/3 of an inning, Craig Stammen (1st blown save) allowed 3 runs on 3 hits (1 homer) with a walk in 2/3 of an inning, and Matt Strahm (0-1) had a hit, run, homer, and strikeout in 1/3 of an inning. Jonny Cueto allowed 4 runs on 4 hits (1 homer) with 3 walks (1 hit batter) and 4 strikeouts in 3.2, Tyler Rogers (1-0) had 1 walk in 1 inning. In other West action on the day the Rockies beat the A’s 5-1, the D’Backs lose to the Rangers 4-7, and the Dodgers beat the Astros 4-2 in 13 innings. Rockies lead the way at 4-1, Dodgers and Pads both 4-2 are a half game back, Giants 3-3 are 1.5 back and the D’Backs 2-4 are 2.5 back.

The finale of the series takes place on Thursday. Kevin Gausman (0-0, 4.50) starts for the Giants against Dinelson Lamet (1-0, 1.80) who takes the ball for the Pads, with game time slated for 9:40.

Default 5-2

Pads 12 @ Giants 7 (10 innings).

Ty France lead off the 3rd with a double, went to 3rd on a groundout from Francisco Mejia and scored on a wild pitch, and than in the 4th four straight hits from Trent Grisham, Manny Machado, Tommy Pham, and Jurickson profar would make it a 3-0 game, before an Evan Longoria sac fly in the 5th made it a 3-1 Pads lead. Pham doubled to lead off the 6th and Profar followed with a home run, and than in the 7th Fernando Tatis drew a walk and Grisham followed with an RBi double so the Pads look to have an insurmountable 6-1 lead, but the Giants wouldn’t go down quietly. They got 3 of the runs back in the bottom of the 7th on a Donavan Solano double, a Wilmer Flores sac fly, and an Austin Slater single, and than tied it in the 8th on a Mike Yastrzemski RBI triple and then he scored on a sac fly to tie it at 6 apiece. Pads would put it away for good in the 10th: Machado walked to begin the frame, Pham followed with an RBI single, Profar was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Greg Garcia cashed in 2 with a single for a 9-6 lead, France had an RBI single, Austin Hedges had an RBI sac bunt, and Tatis had an RBI single for the last run. Alex Dickerson had an RBI groundout in the bottom of the 10th for the final run. Kevin Gausman allowed 3 runs on 6 hits with 8 strikeouts in 4.1, and Tyler Rogers (0-1) allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 3 hits with 1 walk, 2 strikeouts and 1 hit batter in 1 inning. Dinelson Lamet allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts and 1 hit batter in 5 innings, Drew Pomeranz (2nd hold) had 1 strikeout and 1 hit in 1 inning, Emilio Pagan (2nd blown save) allowed 2 runs on 2 hits with a walk and a strikeout, and Pierce Johnson (1-0) had a strikeout and hit in 1.1 innings. In other West action the Dodgers beat the D’Backs and the Rockies were off. Rockies (4-1), Dodgers (5-2) and Padres are all tied for first while the Giants fall to 3-4 and 2 back and the D’Backs fall 3 back at 2-5

Pads head to Denver for the Rockies home opener for the start of 3 on Friday. Garrett Richards (0-0, 0.00) starts for the Pads against Jon Gray (0-0, 1.93) with first pitch scheduled for 8:10. Giants stay at home for a 3 game series with the Rangers.

Default 9-7

Lost 2 of 3 to Colorado, 2 of 3 to the Dodgers, but rebounded to win 2/3 vs. the D'Backs. They play 7 games this week all on the road: 4 in LA, and 3 in Phoenix, the last time they'll face the D'Backs this year.

In other West action from last Friday: D'Backs lost 3 of 4 to the Dodgers, and won 2 of 3 against Houston preceding the Padres series, the Rockies continue to roll winning 3 of 4 against the Giants after the Padres left and won 2 of 3 in Seattle, the Dodgers won 2 of 3 against the Giants after leaving San Diego, and the Giants won 2 of 3 against the Rangers last weekend. Colorado sits atop the division at 11-4, Dodgers are a half back at 11-5, Padres 2 back, Giants (7-10) and D'Backs (6-10) are 5 & 5.5 back respectively. Padres currently hold one of those 2 Wildcard spots.
