Thursday evening after work I went to bed early at about 6pm and woke up at 1am and worked until 1pm Friday afternoon, then rushed to San Marcos for an appointment then went to a starbucks and continued working until 7pm. After that, drove between San Marcos and Atlanta. I took the I-10 route. Even down near the gulf the temperatures ranged between 20 and 30 overnight. Thought for certain I would run into warmer weather. Its in the 20's here in ATL.

I almost made it straight through to ATL but I got tired just outside of Mobile Alabama and took an hour nap.

State trooper finally got me. 90 in a 75 .. I had it coming. I was bookin it the whole way to and from because I needed to get there and back with enough time to rest for Monday morning ...got off with a warning thankfully.

Admittedly lately I've been a bit of a speed adict.

Those cross country trips are hard to stay at-speed (especially in a 'speedy' car), you slowly increase what you are comfortable with . I drove I-10 some years ago and the average speed for the last few hours was ~94 mph

Yeah I have noticed that I actually feel comfortable at 90ish now and when I get to long stretches with no exits for several miles I tend to open it up a bit. I feel as if I'm restraining myself when I do 80 and it doesn't help that the car basically cruises at 90 like 55. I'll slow down when passing through towns or places with alot of interchanges in one area.

The trooper was real cool about it at least. He asked me where I was in such a big hurry to go to. I told him I was coming home from Georgia and he was like 'Jawja?!' ... He didn't check my license or insurance, just reminded me the speed limit was 75. I thought for sure I was going to get that ticket especially since I was in a speedy car.

I had to set the cruise to 80.. ..until I got to DFW.. ..then I had to speed up to keep up with the flow of traffic..

On a side note I have to say I think that the weather has been the coldest I have ever made that trek. Between Atlanta and Louisiana, the temps were below the 20's.. ..for the first time in my life I witnessed frozen swamplands in Lousiana.

I was pleasantly surprised to see some of the retention ponds fill up with water due to the recent rains. I haven't seen that happen in a long time.

It would be nice if it had pushed a bit further west, though. Travis got some of it directly, but a lot of the northwestern basin got much less than Austin and downstream. So far, Travis is up only 9" for all that rain (although I am sure a little more will trickle in) and is sitting right about 631' above MSL.

Automobiles and highways of today are built for safer driving at higher speeds.

I tend to agree. My SS does 90 at less than 2k RPMs, it literally feels like Im only doing 55.

I wish we could have a set of roadways limited to a special license which have no speed limits. Ideally these roads would stay out of the major cities and would have few exits and built mainly to bridge gaps over long distances.

Yes... except they go through urban areas and have speed limits when they do.. ..ideally these roads would stay away from urban areas.
