Just walked by The One today - it's about a quarter the way up and they've already started putting on the cladding on the lower floors. Looking very nice. Yonge Street is rapidly changing - lot's of construction going on lots of it will be a complete redo in a few years. It's looking good!

Never seen a city build so much like Toronto has, it's absolutely insane. There's so much in the pipeline too, it's amazing.

Probably because a major portion of the building is worthless, and it is just tall for the sake of being tall. A 29% vacancy rate, and 200M of dead, unusable space says enough.

yeah i mean it was clearly a prestige project to take a title. There was no practicality to it. It does look kind of cool though at New Year's with the fireworks and light displays.

Last time I went to Dubai was in 2006, just as the project was breaking ground. Didn’t get a chance to see it, though I’m not surprised about the vacancy rate.

Don't forget, taller is not always better. There are liabilities associated with being taller. If there is a serious problem, and you happen to be located above where that problem is happening, that is not a good thing.

To me personally, supertalls are mostly appealing when viewed from the outside. I wouldn’t want to live in any of those buildings, nor work for that matter.

The name of this thread is misleading. yes, supertalls are coming to Toronto but not Canada. There is no other city in the country that will have a supertall for many decades and the only ones where it could possibly happen is Calgary or Edmonton.
