DipDog3 - it seems what I commented made you feel a little defensive. No worry - I'm not part of a conspiracy...just simply stating my "PERSONAL" experience. I will continue to provide as much information as I am able to provide when it is factual and true to my experience. I hope you don't continue to fall on this standard answer and tell others that anymore of PMC"s "patient care" is not needed as this is what is called a forum is if you are not familiar with the term as it seems. I certainly don't doubt there are issues on both sides - both PMC and CMC have their issues and I would argue each are not perfect but I'm not walking around with blinders on either.
I don't think we need any more of PMC's "patient care".
The article lacks other info on major malpractice cases.
September 2008 PMC settle a malpractice wrongful death case against one the ER docs $1.2 million to the family of the deceased.
Feb 2009 a family of deceased child awarded $4.4 million in a birth injury wrongful death case against PMC.
April 2011 another PMC ER doc wrongful death case, family awarded $1 million and this doc is still practicing in the PMC ER.
In 2007, this was a sad case. A 71 year old man tried two times to be admitted to the psychiatric unit at PMC and was turned away. He was homicidal and suicidal. He went home and hanged himself from a tree in his yard. Another wrongful death lawsuit and his family received $1 million from PMC.
Also earlier in 2007 again, an ER doc at PMC prescribed the wrong drug and killed the patient. PMC paid out $1.77 million to the family.
I am sure other hospitals have malpractice lawsuits. But this is home and sometimes we know the people or a family member of the person that dies.
On November 3 the local newspaper said the ruling could come on the Fort Mill Hospital that week. A little over a month has passed with no ruling yet. I talked to DHEC a few days ago and the Judge has not announced a decision!!!
The simple answer is that they are not known for providing quality health care for patients. I went to them in 2006 and the experience was so bad I swore I'd never go back. I'm solidly in CHS's camp.
