You sure don't make it easy. Gotta confess, did a little reading on this one. I can find cabins dating back too 1771. Hanover. Not sure who had which one but the whole township sprung up and some are still standing. But they talk about other townships not far away.

Got me. Saqajaweeah. SP. Was from here and she died young helping Bridger and party. She had stayed in a cabin. So it's hard telling.

That's what I love about a thread like this. I learn something every day.

Okay, So it looks as if no-one has an answer To my first Cabin built in WY question.

The answer is:

The first known cabin built in WY was built in 1812 by Robert Stuart and his companions. It was built on the North Platt River near Bessemer Bend after Stuart and his companions discovered South Pass while returning Eastward from Oregon.

Okay, Lets see if anyone can answer this question:

Francois Louis Verendrye and companions were the first white men to sight what in WY around the year of 1742?

The Bighorn Mountains! We just returned this afternoon from 5 days at Middle Fork Campground. Unfortunately I was too sick to do anything for a couple of those days. My young (11-year-old) great nephew did manage to land a few brook trout and one nice German brown from the riffles behind our camper. He'll be giving fishing tips to anyone who'll listen for the next year or two.

We've all heard about the Johnson County Wars. Three part question:
In 1892 a posse of 200 men led by _______ _______ _______ engaged in a gunfight with "The Regulators" commanded by _______ _______ _______ at what location?

At the T A Ranch.

If I am remembering right. I believe it happened shortly after they killed Nate Champion and Nick Rae down at the Kaycee Ranch.

I need to re-read The Longest Rope written by Bill Walker. He was one of the only witnesses to what happened exactly at the Kaycee Ranch.

I don't mean to highjack the thread, but Chris Ledoux had a song titled the "Johnson County War". I love anything by Chris Ledoux but this song is really great! Kind of a little history of WY in lyrics and music. Of course many of his self penned songs were in some way.

You got it Wyoquilter. Your turn.

Mr Pontiac, I assume you know that LeDoux lived in Johnson County -- near Kaycee, just a bit south of Buffalo.

You know the one reason why I became interested in the JC war was because my family lived in the area at the time. My great, great grandfather was asked to gaurd the courthouse because of the threat that the regulators were going to burn it down. My g, g grandfather was really good friends with Nate and Nick as well as most of the small folks who were being threatened and forced out by the cattle barrons.

Off subject, but responding to the Chris LeDoux comments. I was lucky enough to see him perform at the camplex in gillette. He put on a great show. He was an amazing singer, rodeo rider and most of all a great Wyomingite who died way before his time.

Now for the next qustion:

How many treaties did it take before the US could acquire the land that makes up WY?
