It would have to be in the last paper I checked.

That was a real toughie - the Giants and the White Sox were doing their world exhibition games that year and getting a lot of coverage in all the papers.

But you are looking for the Philly Athletics and the Cincinnati Reds, who withdrew their offer because Cheyenne couldn't (or wouldn't) pony up $500 and 75% of the gate.

Rodeo season approaches as the snow recedes... (Okay, may be a bit late this year.) Let's do rodeo.

The oldest rodeo is Lander's, and the first Sheridan - Cheyenne rodeo was in Sheridan, according to this thread. But where was the first rodeo held in the state of Wyoming?

Hint #1:

Custer should have stopped around here rather than continue north...

Nope, not Gillette; think 124 miles northwest of Gillette, but not as a crow flies. As a highway drives. (If you start climbing the Big Horns, you've gone too far.)

Hint # 2 was going to be, they don't have rodeos there anymore.

ElkHunter, I couldn't use the hint I really wanted:

"EH drives through this town to get groceries once a week..."

You're right; it was 1890, and Dayton was first.

You are up!

Thanks. I had remained silent for a while, hoping somebody would get it.

In 1891, President Benjamin Harrison created the first what, in Wyoming? What was it called?
