When Gretel Ehrlich was on a walk with her dog, she was struck by lighting (don't know what happened to the pooch). It inspired her in her career as an author. She wrote about the experience in a book "A Match to the Heart" which became one of her best selling books. She also wrote "This Cold Heaven" which was all about the experience.

she talked at WSGA and I got a couple autographed books

Sounds to me like Cokeville, which was known then as the "sheep capital of the world."

It was originally a coal town, but you know what happens whenever those dang trains show up...
