My husband is about to get out of the Marines and we potentially may end up in Rock Springs for a job. One of my biggest concerns is the size. I grew up in Phoenix and have never lived in a town with less than 65000 people in it. I'm nervous about finding things to do and meeting other people/moms. I'm also freaking out a little that there's no Target there! I just worry that it's a little more isolated than I'm used to and that I'll hate it there. Does anybody have any suggestions or words of encouragement? Is it family friendly and are there any mom groups up there?

There are mom/play groups. You can shop online for your Target fix. You can also drive to Salt Lake City and really appreciate the chain restaurants, etc. that you just think you appreciate now.

One benefit to living in a smaller town, that I and some others have discovered, is: You may be forced (initially) to associate with people other than who you would normally. You may even find, as I and some others have discovered, that your mind/attitudes about social issues and experiences are broadened through these associations.

With slightly limited (I say slightly because you probably don't access all that is available in Phoenix, anyway) opportunities, you may find that you branch out and try activities that you wouldn't at your current locale. And, you will learn things that you otherwise would not have.

Having lived in both very large metropolitan cities and also 65 miles from towns of 20,000, that has been my experience.

There's a WalMart at Rock Springs, so the big box superstore presence is there.

LOL though some people equate Wal-mart to canned tuna as Target is to caviar.. :P I know my sister is of that mindset. Me, I do most of my shopping at Walmart.
