So what I should rather turn to, is a place to rent for a week. From there, we'll drive one day to yellowstone, one day to the rendezvous reanactment, one day to pinedale or jackson to visit the museums (mountain man's, buffalo bill's..)... one day to a ranch where to do some hiking and horseback riding.

I'm now checking out guest houses in Jackson and Pinedale. And also in Montana near Yellowstone.
Unless you spend a lot of time on horseback, YOU might not enjoy a week of it either. (Ouch!) I took my kids on a day of horseback riding when they were a little older than yours. It was just south of Yellowstone, but I don't recall the name.

You might also want to reconsider renting the same place for a week, as traveling back and forth could take up the whole day. Yellowstone itself is big. To see it you need to stay in the park, in West Yellowstone, MT or Gardiner, MT. Otherwise you'll be spending half your time driving back and forth. And from any of those, it's a long drive to Cody, Jackson or Pinedale.

Togwotee Lodge just East of Moran Junction has two hour and half day horseback riding excursions for families. They have cabins and/or lodge rooms to rent. This is a real pretty area with views across the Snake River Valley of the Teton Mountains.

Hello CptnRn, that's a very nice place! Thanks for the hint. It seems perfect for my projects!

WyoNewk, thank you for the advice. You are most probably right. Google maps is great, but it makes me feel everything is drivable easily. I may have lost sight of distance. Well luckily, I have time to reconsider. :-)

Thanks everyone for your time. I really enjoy this board. Makes me want to be there already!

Here is another place you should consider. A little more off the beaten path but still easy to get to. Louis Lake Lodge in the Wind River Mountains near Lander Wyoming
