I gotta admit that I didn't realize that "fiction novel" was incorrect until I saw it hear.

A novel, by definition, is fiction. A writer should know that, and so a person who writes to an editor or agent saying he or she has written a fiction novel automatically loses some credibility with the people they are trying to impress.

Just as the NYC literary agent lost a bit of credibility in my eyes when she used the term last weekend at the writers' retreat!

I'm reading The Color Purple. Never read the book, never saw the movie.

I had to suspend my inner editor to read it. Worth it, though, to be able to "hear" Celie speak.

I think cotton is correct:

cotton to - Idioms - by the Free Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Even without the explanation about idioms, cotten would not be correct since it isn't a word.
Perhaps I am missing KathrynAragon's intent in using it?

In a long, rambling, and somewhat incoherent post in the NJ Forum, a young man shared these thoughts with us:

“I finally started seeing a therapist and after talking about my hole life…I was flirting with a chick I new for a while…currently still in college I'm in my senior year…I come here for advise

Hmmm...in addition to therapy, perhaps he should consider some additional English courses...

One person responded with the following advice:

“You should be sewing wild oats now lest you regret not doing it later in life.”

That doctor may turn out to be a true Rara Avis.

At the end of an article on CNN on-line:

Marilyn Monroe photos found at garage sail still a mystery.

Maybe it was a garage on a floating dock?
