In high school, I had an English teacher who was a nice woman, but she was not a particularly good teacher. Especially frustrating to me (even as a lowly 10th grader) were the teacher's frequent mispronunciations.
I distinctly recall that a girl in my class was reading a short story aloud, and she came upon the word, "Yosemite", which she did not know how to pronounce.
She asked Mrs. Forrester for help with the pronunciation, and the teacher loudly intoned, "That's pronounced YOES-MIGHT, my dear!"
Boy, I say, Boy, didn't she ever hear of Yosemite Sam!!!

Before TV, comic books left a lot to the imagination. I thought it was yo-sa-might Sam, too. We also did not know that Potrzebie (Mad Magazine) was a real Polish word pronounced "POAT-cheb-yeh". Same goes for Superman's archenemy Mister Mxyzptlk, which actually has a pronunciation listed in some dictionaries http://www.reference.com/browse/Mister_Mxyzptlk
Continuing on the theme of words/names that were commonly mispronounced years ago, I just recalled another. White Rock carbonated beverages had a trademarked image on their labels, depicting the mythical Greek Goddess Psyche. She was kneeling on a large rock, and underneath her image was her name, Psyche.
However, back in the good old days, it seems that a large percentage of the population thought that her name was pronounced, "Pishy" .
If there was ever a word that a company wouldn't want associated with their beverage, I think it would have to be, "Pishy".
