My wife made a donation to her college alma mater and received a thank you card. It was a photo postcard of 5 students and had a handwritten thank you note: We appreciate donErs like you.

Good luck in the real world.

That would mean "college college"
Define: Alma Mater
a school, college, or university at which one has studied and, usually, from which one has graduated.

She obtained her B.S. degree there, but her nursing degree from another institution, and her masters from CMU. So you can only have 1 alma mater?

Crashj007 is correct that "college alma mater" is redundant, so it would have been more clearly-expressed if you had stated "undergraduate alma mater". In any event, we know that you are a literate person, so I suggest that you not lose any sleep over that correction.

Related to that theme, I find it simply mind-boggling that so many college graduates nowadays state that they are "an alumni" of a particular school.

Not a problem, always appreciate learning something new. But it did prompt me to research the old graduated or graduated from debate.

It is now widely agreed that there is nothing wrong with saying “I graduated from college,” and some guides even view the usage proscribed by Gould and Ayres (“I was graduated from college”) as outdated. You do not have to worry about saying that you “graduated from” college, or any other educational institution.

I remember my boss at the drugstore back in the 60's beating that into our heads. Guess he would be wrong now.
But, alot of people could care less.

After somebody asked a question that no adult should need to ask, he was given the obvious answer and was also politely informed of his naïveté. His reaction to the responses was...

That is exactly what I wanted to know and I know that know.

words of wisdom:

The truth will always prevails.
However the truth don't have an ego, so it cannot be arrogant.
