I was just outside and it's a pretty blustery day.

That made me remember a phrase that I am pretty sure no one uses anymore (except maybe in OHIO):

"Oh, go fly a kite!"

I heard all those from my grandparents and family, and used them myself. Once someone asked me if I'd lived in the midwest, especially Iowa, since I used so many expressions from there. Most of the family on mom's side came from Iowa.

"Baby formula" - from the days when moms mixed their own baby "formula" from evaporated milk, Karo syrup and water. First you washed the bottles in hot soapy water and then you boiled the bottles to sterilize them. Then you mixed the "forumla" into the sterilized bottles and sterilized the mixture by boiling for 15 minutes in a few inches of boiling water.
