Absolutely not. You cannot increase freedom, or tolerance for that matter, by criminalizing hate speech. It takes education and experience.

What type of freedoms are we talking about? How do those countries rank in private property rights? How about self defense rights? Economic liberty?

That "free existence" site listed property rights. The Wikipedia one based on "list of indices of freedom" included economic liberty.

Going by only the clearly economic-involved ones "Free Existence" seems to put the US on top.

Freedom Index : Find Freedom!

Of independent nations the Fraser Institute puts Singapore, New Zealand, and Switzerland as having the freest economies.

http://www.freetheworld.com/2008/Eco...eWorld2008.pdf

Of independent nations the Heritage Foundation's index (strongly criticized by the Ludwig Von Mises Institute) places Singapore, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand as tops. Both index place Hong Kong as number 1, but Hong Kong is an autonomous territory rather than a nation proper.

Country rankings for trade, business, fiscal, monetary, financial, labor and investment freedoms

So Singapore and New Zealand might be what you want for economic freedom. Singapore better if you aren't as concerned about freedom of expression.

These lists seem very euro-centric.

Australia, Canada, Japan and the US are rather high.

"Hate Speech" is one of the dumbest things ever created. Even if a person holds views which are non-Orthodox, that person should still have the right to express his/her opinions as long as no crime is committed.

European nations are havens for politically correct BS. Holocaust denial and "insulting" a particular religion are crimes in Germany.

If you read § 130 StGB closely, you will realise that you don't get convicted for only insulting a religion.

But if I go yelling and screaming "Long Live 9/11" and "Long Live ISIS" and "Kill all Americans" what would happen?

Funny you say. Have you heard of the Westboro Baptists? They yell stuff like "thank god for dead soldiers", "thank god for 911", "America is doomed", etc (oh, and they hold signs containing those words in the streets). They don't just hate America, but the whole world except themselves. Nobody even arrests them, not unless they do something bad (one of the 'main' women was cuffed).

You may get a visit from the FBI to find out what is wrong with your head but that is about it. They would not be able to arrest you unless they have proof that you are a terrorist or are actively involved in a terrorist group.

Then this is freedom (obviously I don't share those sick ideas).
By the way, I have one question: a friend of mine's sister went on the US in May 2002 and she swore that all Muslim women she saw were without any veil because they would have allegedly been "lynched".
Now, how true is this statement?
