Top 5 richest cities in the World (based on GDP, personal earnings, purchasing power), and 3 of them are in the United States. Tokyo and New York just dominate and are well ahead of the others.

1. Tokyo - 1.191 Trillion dollars

2. New York City - 1.133 Trillion dollars


3. Los Angeles - 639 Billion dollars

4. Chicago - 460 Billion dollars

5. Paris - 460 Billion dollars

I guess the Vatican, is it a city or country, doesn't make the list because of no GDP. I think if net worth were the measurement it might make the top five.

Dubai is such a small place at only about 1 million people that im just not suprised at all it didn't make it.

Great list! As an American, I'm of course proud to see our Big Three cities up there. And since I'm half French I'm also tickled to see that Paris is up there, although I believe London is supposed to surpass Paris by 2020.

Don't go confusing financial matters and GDP. If they were parallel, then Los Angeles wouldn't be in there, right? That being said, the one city that isn't listed, but IS the financial capital- is London.
