At some point someone in management has to be held accountable for all these bad hires because since May of 2009, I have seen 6 people get fired. Six people in 12 months is a HIGH NUMBER

What kind of place is this where you work 3 or 4 hours overtime because they fired someone else...?

Also if that many people have been let go, yes, there is a problem with either the organization or WHO they are hiring.. It's not a large company, right? If so, one person leaving would not call for others to stay 3 hours late...

Not in social service work it's not, especially for small agencies without funding to hire the best and the brightest. You've work in that type of job for how long and still don't understand the burnout/turnover rate is almost as high as retail?

I didn't get home until 9pm because I took over her class and by doing that it caused me to fall back on my own work. So as a favor to my supervisor I agreed to take over her class since she was not going to return after friday.

And you can't leave at 5pm everyday with low performance hich is why she was fired

You have to either stay late and try to bring up your numbers or leave at 5pm and work from home

That girl did neither which is why she was let go.

Even more unfortunate when the agency for which the OP works is in the business of student employment counseling. No wonder the public educational system is in such a mess when those they hire to counsel students are so often ill-qualified and ill-trained.

I'm a job search specialist. I see you keep forgetting that little fact.

Well, I guess your funding comes from the government and we all know how no one watches these agencies very closely.

It's good you're trying to be a better employee but you have to wonder why they have gone through so many people at a job training firm during a recession. Do they not spell out the duties? Are they just hiring based on some quota system? There are so many good people out of work, you really have to think something is WRONG somewhere.

With all due respect, your employment record now you're in your mid 30s isn't exactly stellar. You continuously have problems in the workplace with management and coworkers, have no savings of any merit, own no property, own no vehicle and pretty much live hand to mouth - all this by your own admission.

You're not alone in this situation but seem to have a sense of your own importance which borders on grandiose delusion. The fact that you consider yourself a "specialist" in your field only demonstrates the point I made that, "No wonder the public educational system is in such a mess when those they hire to counsel students are so often ill-qualified and ill-trained." I appreciate your bolstering my point.

Not really. He calls them students, when in fact they are adults and "clients" would be a more appropriate term. They are "at risk" men trying to enter or reenter the workforce. They have no job skills and most also have poor social skills. I find it incredibly ironic that TVSG is supposed to be "teaching" skills that per his postings he obviously lacks himself.

True and I agree. These "students" as he calls them have already failed within the system for a variety of reasons and if their last resort to make something of themselves rests in the hands of someone like the OP then, for the reasons you stated, the chances of them being successful are limited at best.

I can jocularly make fun of his outlook on life in general, his blatant misogyny and his general social ineptness but when he pumps himself up at the expense of others I get very irritated.

Many of us remember that when he finally got a job after a period of unemployment he puffed himself up and was downright rude and unsympathetic to others still standing in line desperately seeking work, churning out gratuitous, demeaning and simplistic platitudes.

He is what he is but apparently sees himself in a very different light, as some sort of caped champion who is continuously being wronged because of the ineptitude of everyone else. His mantra is, "this is the way that it's SUPPOSED to be". No matter how many times he's challenged about his suppositions in ANY arena he listens not a whit.

I've often mentioned that he seems incapable of understanding posts which contain more than three sentences or words of more than three syllables. Even when he responds to a post containing any of the above it's in the form of an irrelevant and inane one-liner which makes no sense.

According to him, six employees have been fired in a year but I'm sure he feels so secure in his position that it would never occur to him that he might be next - and if that happens then look for another series of threads.

Grasshopper, congratulations on your incredible insight knowing that this coworker would be terminated. You are indeed The Man who keeps this work establishment on its toes and thank goodness there's at least ONE person in the place who does what you do. The extended hours will make a change from your normal daily routine of getting home early to sit on the computer looking for dates and that's not a bad thing. You'll be in good favor with your boss because she can leave knowing you're there to pick up the slack.
