I wish Obama would help us. They've extended unemployment benefits numerous times, and will do it again. Yet graduates, many whom supported him, get no love. (Which I will remember come election time 2010 and 2012!)
Unemployment is funded by either employee contributions or employer contributions, depending on the state. You were never an employee to make these contributions or to have your employer make them for you, so why should you be eligible for the program? It's insurance, just like car insurance. Or do you think you should get that if you wreck your car, even if you never bought a policy?

No offense but you're really not doing much for your generation when you say things like that.

I read an article recently about a guy who started his own dog poop collection business and makes 6 figures doing it. I wonder if that kind of opportunity exists in socialist Russia or China?

Maybe my mistake but I thought you were looking for some advice. Can't imagine you'd just post to whine about your situation.

Is it really necessary to live downtown near the nightlife? Most likely the more expensive areas of any community.

I've found many rooms in the Birmingham area in the $300-400 range. Do you really need a car? Is there no public transportation?

It all comes down to priorities. It appears you're looking for the good life and just can't afford it and are unwilling to compromise.

You're right, it was your mistake. Quite a few mistakes you've made actually. I wasn't looking for advice. Didn't ask any questions in the initial post. Just venting. Besides, don't need your "help".

Birmingham? Wrong assumption again, something becoming common with you. I make one post in a Birmingham forum, now all my jobs I'm looking at are there? 16,500 was in a place where the AVERAGE rent was over $900. Birmingham is $630. Yet you draw that connection... because with a 10 second forum search, you're an expert on my life.

Looking downtown, near nightlife? Unwilling to compromise? You just keep going. No, I am downright stupid for not moving across the country, taking a $16,500/year job when the rent for a studio apartment would be 65% of my gross income. LOL.

Advice isn't your strong suit. I'd stop giving it.

First off, 22K wasn't 22K. The company advertised 22k, but later told me I'd only be working 9 months of the year. The actual salary was 16,500 annually. I'm not sure that's even above the poverty line, it might be slightly.

Secondly, I would be living in an area where the average rent was about $900/mo. I have $200/mo payments in student loans. I also pay car insurance. With a gross monthly salary of 1375 before taxes (less than 1k after taxes), how do you expect me to live there?

You advise me to "take it and eat Mac N Cheese all day". How am I supposed to afford Mac N Cheese if I don't net a positive number every month after rent? It wouldn't even be equivalent to an unpaid internship, because you'd be in the red every month as opposed to being even.

I make 800/mo part time living at home, paying no rent. After student loans and car payments, I net around $500. Swami, what should I have done, since you know my life better than me?

Until you mentioned you were living at home I was going to suggest you get rid of the car

Nothing.

Well, it looks like you have done just about everything you can to find work. Times are tough out there, that's for sure. You just gave me an idea. I should trust that God will help me make it through as well. I think HE never fails to help those in need. Thanks for the idea
