Thanks everyone again for great ideas and support.
Articulation issues? and then another post you mentioned buzz words?

Walk the talk? Is that the coined phrase I am looking for? And perhaps you are looking to, as well.

Language does change. I said 'my bad' to some one and then apologized only to find out, it was acceptable.

"What Color is My Parachute", there is a new publication that came out in 2008. I have yet to read it. But I did read the one published in 1994.

Find the new addition and you may find the new language of the millenniums.

Every thing has changed. Find out what has changed.

good luck! and all the best...

But avoid using too many catch phrases or you'll sound like BS Bingo card. I recently stopped doing business with a vendor because I couldn't stand that every word out of his mouth was a buzzword. "In this new millennia you need to proactively leverage your brand in order to be seamless best-in-class and client-centric. Could I have some facetime with you next week?" In other words, "I have some new marketing crap to pitch, can I stop in?" The answer was "No, I'm busy. Forever!"

I completely agree with you on the overuse of buzzwords. I don't want to sound like a walking jargon, but I do want the knowledge to shine/peek through in a coherent manner. My biggest issue is that I don't elaborate on my answers. I tend to be short on details, afraid to say something incoherent or old fashioned-sounding.

In general, I get nervous, blank out for a second, and need a pause in order to collect myself. The mock interviews are a great idea! Now, all I need is a victim.

You might want to call your community college career center and ask if you can participate in their next job fair. They may offer mock/real interviewing. Then afterwards, after you have finished your elevator speech, you can ask the person for any pointers for improvement.

Or you can go to your State One Stop career center, I am sure they would be willing to help you out, especially if you are on unemployment.

Or you can go to your senior citizens center and ask if any ex-professionals, would be willing to mock interview you in exchange for a game of chess.

Or you can join toastmasters and ask any of its members if they would be willing to mock interview after the meeting or during the week.

Or you can put an ad on the college campus and pay someone 20 bucks to mock interview you, preferably a graduate student or senior who has interviewing experience.

Or you can just ask a friend!

good luck!

good luck on your first week!

Unfortunely I'm starting on Monday. Not too thrilled as I wait to hear from the closer job on Broad and Chestnut before Wednesday.
