People who will complain to you even though you're new. The more people you hear complaining, the more you should be alarmed.

In I.T. in particular you should be concerned about what the on-call schedule looks like and who gets called to "emergency" bridges when there's an issue. If you're a developer but you are required to attend emergency bridges even when the issue is clearly and unequivocally a network issue, that's a red flag because your time is not valued or respected.

Didn't you start a new job a few months ago?

Once the door is closed behind you, it is closed and you can't go back. If you do try to, you will be the next one laid off. Make the best of where you are. Many people have said the best time to look for a new job is the first day of your new one.

It would likely get better responses if we knew what sort of field/job.

Others have made some insightful suggestions up thread.

Here's my input. Anyone gossiping. Outdated equipment. No staff introduction.

If people immediately befriend you only to complain incessantly about their jobs, the manager, the company, etc. Or if you are asked to work late hours in your first week, yikes.

Complaining is a big one. People not seeming happy or excited about being at their jobs (some of that is normal, but it's not if you notice it as the common thread). Everyone bolting out the door as soon as the day is over. Lack of socializing, being friendly. People who like their jobs talk to one another a lot. Things seeming chaotic, not feeling like there's a real protocol or system of organization.

Open room/pit environments where you need some quite time to figure stuff (e.g. coding, engineering questions, reading a regulation, drafting legal documents), it is NOT quite, and they prohibit you from wearing noise cancelling headphones.

If I were your new manager I’d already have red flags going off about you! Sounds to me like you’re going into this new job with one eye looking in your rear view mirror. Sorry, but you need to stay at your old job.

haha. .so true. My lucky day was the person who told that to me was first to be let go.. The ones who ask questions were the ones that got to stay.

If there's a courtyard with a stone wall in the back, with bullet holes in the wall.... you may have made the wrong choice.
