LOL I know right

Good job on the apology OP, I know it must have been humbling, but kudos on having the courage to express remorse and move on. In today's overly-PC over-reactionary world, it would probably be best to keep it professional 1,000,000% from now on (save your real, relaxed feelings for when you're away from the office)

As far as the word-bashing, it's the nature of the intrawebs OP......case has been closed, apology accepted and everyone in your real world is moving on, and in the end that's all that matters. It looks as if posters here are just arguing semantics, or expressing their "outrage" and reactions to your initial post.

Good luck and keep it simple, do what you're supposed to do at work and keep it moving, have a good weekend. Yay Friday!!!

It's more like the dingleberries that come to this forum and read the first post, but not the rest, that cause this.

Boy are you WRONG! I've worked in HR and I could fire ANYONE at ANY TIME for ANY REASON or NO reason. The only exception was those that had contracts. You would ABSOLUTELY have been fired IMMEDIATELY for flirting. We had a ZERO tolerance sexual harassment policy.

And this wasn't just the company I worked for. My husband works for a Fortune 100 company and each year they have to go through HOURS of sexual harassment training. They must sign a booklet saying they took the training and understand it all. Failure to complete this results in your termination. Sexual harassment is very REAL and taken VERY seriously by most companies because it will cost them via lawsuit if they aren't serious about it.

Im a guy, but boy are you right about that.

I have a friend who thinks a woman being in the same 10 foot radius as him means she wants him.

I just had sexual harassment training and apparently even staring or looking at some one can be sexual harassment. So an Individual (most likely a woman) can get me fired by saying I looked at her inappropriately. I never knew this until yesterday, the sensitivity and PC in this country is hilariously sad. Oh let's not forget "3rd party harassment" where someone gets offended by overhearing a convo that's none of their business.

What the OP said would have gotten him fired 40 years ago. IMO his boss messed up by not firing him, and publicizing internally why he was fired.

We had a guy pull something like that at a job, and it actually worked against him.

Some of my colleagues were talking about Football, and how old a certain Football player is ( I couldnt tell you the name or team, I wasnt there ) Anyway, an older gentlemen who is usually pretty laid back, fun loving and at times inappropriate himself, overheard the term " old man " and thought they were talking about him, he took it up to HR, there was a gigantic ****-show over it, including the sensitivity stupidity, the mandatory videos, and the HR robot going into overdrive to make sure we knew what words are and are not appropriate.

Anyways, now that the circus died down, this older gentleman who was well liked by everyone, is basically the office pariah.

He went to that magical HR department again, now over being the pariah, and HR bluntly told him " We can ask them to not mention age, we cant ask them to be your friend, youre here to work, ETC. "

He ( the affected employee ) recently came to a co worker and I for advise on what to do, and Il be honest, I felt uncomfortable talking to him, since I did not want to say anything that might offend him, so I just kept it office-PC friendly, I absolutely HATED doing that!

Now, the office is two different work places, the same fun-loving place it used to be when hes not in or when hes doing other duties, and a complete 180 when hes around, its noticeable to anybody with half a brain cell, nobody goes out of their way to insult/disrespect him, but outside of " Good morning " and job related talk, nobody has anything to say to the guy, whats worse, when he tried to joke one day about something on the news regarding Obama, he was flatly told it was inappropriate, and management wrote HIM up for his joke.

Lesson learned : No matter how much sensitivity training, videos, talks and lectures, humans will always be humans.

Oh, so now you can get fired just for making eye contact, even though it's good and proper conduct to look someone in the eye when having a conversation??
Note to self: Avert eyes when speaking, or being spoken to.

Oh I forgot about third party harassment, which I think is a bridge too far, but I think people know what they really mean by its incidence. Not so much "it offends mine eyes to see my coworkers flirting with each other"; but "I really don't want to see or hear my coworkers having long lavish detailed discussions about the likes of BJ's or porn", which, let's face it, are things which can happen, somewhere.

If you believe everything in that post, sure.
Or you can exercise some common sense and act professional at all times while at work or do some research yourself to see what potentially can be demmed objectionable behaviors at work if you're so unsure about it.
