I work in a large technology company and some of the dress code abuses (male and female) are ridiculous. I am forced to dress business casual everyday which is fine. Altough it would be nice to have causual Friday once in while.
Here are some of the craziness that i see..

1- A dude wearing socks and sandles
2- A girl wearing super tight short miniskirt with leggings/stockings.
3-Crazy high heels by some of the women.
4-Some women wearing flip-flops.
5-Jeans regularly throughout the week
6-T-shirts!
7-Sneakers

Was wondering if this is common in corporate america now.

I just started working for a major corporation where it is "Business Casual", this is my first job in over 15 years where it is business casual, however I am from the Seattle area where dresscodes are much more laid back then they are here. I break the "Rules" here quite often but I have my reasons and I do it within reason. I honestly believe if you don't work with the public daily that dressing up for work isn't necessary.

If these are problems at your company I would say that your company either doesn't have or doesn't enforce a dress code.

Personally, I would be delighted if I could sign on with an employer where I would never have to waste money and endure the constant discomfort and self-consciousness that anything more than "business casual" implies. A strict enforcement of that standard wouldn't be a problem.

If you're fine following the dress code, why do you really care if others don't?

Anyway, they might not be getting away with it either. Just because upper management doesn't tell them to shape up doesn't mean their views of these employees won't be colored by their choice in attire.

Because a complete disregard of common sense increases the possibility that some dinosaur higher up in the pyramid will institute a code that really is a pain in the neck -- literally!

Tech companies tend to be more casual than other white collar types of workplaces.

Why do these things (#1-7) bother you? You have a job, you collect a paycheck. Beyond that, who cares.

The corp I work at doesn't allow this list except jeans on Friday. Slacks, a minimum of a polo, and dress shoes are required M-Th. Oh and during football season they allow jerseys on Friday too. I think if I worked for sachs, chase, etc as a market analyst or if I worked in account in this company I couldn't do what I described. I see everyone in business attire, not casual, in accounting.

Yeh, around here if the tech people dressed like the people you complain about, it would be a step up! I see a guy on the bus that works at Amazon wearing Utilikilts.

I'm in commercial real estate and even those that meet regularly with customers are business casual with jeans on casual Friday. Seriously, though anyone can get away with jeans every day and no one would day anything.

I have worked at a few Software companies here in Germany including SAP where you could probably come in in your pajamas and nobody would care. People wear what they felt like, for some it´s businesses dress and for others some metal band tee shirt with studded leather or shorts and a aloha shirt with sandals...
