Was wondering if many people do this and how happy or successful they are after they did.

Yes, I moved to two different countries where the only person I know was myself. In both cases, I had to deal with language and culture issues.

I consider that I am very happy and successful. Moving definitely gave me an edge to advance my career.

I moved 1200 miles for grad school (cohort of 5).
Moved 800 miles for an internship.
Moved 800 miles a year later for a job.

All different areas across the country. Right now I am the closest to home I have been since 2007 and I still live 340 miles away.

I was happy each time I moved, but I really like exploring new cities and areas and am pretty adaptable to new areas.

I've never been one of those people that had a strong desire to live in a certain setting (urban, suburban, rural, etc.). I think there are positives and drawbacks to each.

I've done it twice. Moving can be stressful and as stated above it depends on each person. If you're happy where you are it may not be worth the complications.

I just don't get how someone could do it. I mean what would you do with your life when your not working? Just be by yourself all the time? It would be lonely.

You meet people at work. You go out. You join clubs. You know, be social.

My family (me, husband, two kids) did it for my husband's job. Granted, it was not me all alone, but it was our little family alone. And we made it work. You meet people and soon enough, you're not a stranger anymore and your new home is "home."

We also host exchange students, who come as strangers to live in our home and community for a year. These kids become our family; they come back to visit each year and there are tears when they leave. They don't know anyone when they arrive, and they meet us for the first time when we pick them up from the airport. Still, they become a part of the community, make friends and have a great time.

If you want to do it, then do it! You're only a stranger for a little while.

I am an introvert. I enjoy being alone. I only need books to be happy and later, the Internet. I met a lot of my friends through the Internet - not online dating but forums such as dog training that I frequent - I don't even have dogs.

Nowadays I am more outgoing. If I move again, I would be able to meet people anywhere from the elevator to the street.

Moving with a family is WAY different. Your family, if you have one, is the most important and all consuming part of your life. It basically is your life. That would be easy.
