What I am saying is that only hardcore technical skills are needed nowadays.

You come here without telling us anything about yourself to attack and broad brush people & situations in a subject you clearly have absolutely no clue about.

Obvious troll and obvious troll bait will always be obvious.

Do you mean recent grads or people with '2-5 years of experience' with a linear corporate career history (with known companies, no gaps in employment or any other unexplained 'baggage'). You also have to have the right look and profile (I won't say any more because I don't want to be called a racist)

I've written about it plenty before but there are several dozen fields of work where there are hundreds of job openings that go unfilled due to lack of qualified people.

Like this job in the Washington, DC Area ASCE Career Connections

As to the requirements they aren't kidding, doesn't matter what engineering degree or training you have without that NICET III certification you will not get that job.

I smell a federal inspection contract and that certification is normal in our field.

The problem is they probably won't be able to find anyone because I looked in the registry and Washington DC doesn't have any Level III's. Not a single one. So I counted the Level III's in Maryland and there's 41 in Maryland and in Virginia there's 48. That's a combined total of 89 qualified people counting both states and the district.

But they will have a problem filling these jobs, I am told there are two openings available, because the employment rate is at 100% or a case where someone is not working it is because they don't want to. It's one of those fields where if you cold called you could be very sure someone on the other end would talk to you.

Kind of like where I work where the people up front know if someone wanders in with that certification they know to immediately come and get me or the owner... they do not leave until one of us can at least talk to them.

You and I corresponded about this.. Looking into this type of coursework and speaking to instructors about the programs recommended when you PM'd me about this , they basically told me not to waste my time or money and the jobs in this fields want very specific experience (as was told to me) You can get certification in whatever but without practical experience (when you are older than the typical recent college grad) those certifications are as useful as public restroom toilet paper.

There are many other 'reasons' why people have a hard time finding a job even if they have loads of technical skills & certifications, iit could be because of a bad previous employment history, poor interview skills where they stumble with their answers or don't answer specifically what is being asked, lack of actual accomplishments on a Resume or other reasons that I won't mention here for fear of not bling politically correct. Of course there is also imformal blacklisting & bad references which can make someone unemployable.

As opposed to what... People void of a marketable skillset? I thought this was always how the job market operated...

Why are you so obsessed with my interviewing skills? You probably imagine it goes like this:

I walk in to interview wearing a wrinkled t-shirt, shorts, flip flops, chewing gum(having not brushed my teeth in a year), not showered in 6 months, and when asked to "tell me about yourself" go on a monologue like this "I have been fighting internet trolls for more than half my life, I also have extensive experience playing WoW and watching internet porn."

I'm surprised Jesse isn't actively seeking work in this field. It seems suited to his skills. But then again if he got a job he wouldn't have anything to whine about.
