I just took a job which is OK but not great. It starts soon. It has good pay and some part may be interesting, but a good amount of it will likely be boring. I'm not sure if I want to go into the field the job is in or not, but if I did, I would pick a different sub-field.

So I wonder if I should continue to network and look for other jobs. Some people have told me that you can take a job that isn't what you really want just to get by while you look for what you really want. I don't know exactly what I want, but I do want to find a job I am not bored by.

I am going to a networking event soon. My options are:
1. Tell them I am looking for a job, and mention that I just took one.
2. Tell them I am looking for a job, but don't mention I just took one.
3. Tell them I am looking to explore future careers, and mention that I just took a job.
4. Tell them I am looking to explore future careers, and don't mention that I just took a job (leaving an opening for getting a job if it comes up).

Does anyone know what to do in this situation?

Thanks!

In regards to Networking, while on the job, my take on it is meet people and cultivate those relationships well. With your current job, work good with them and build up your reputation as someone that works hard and knows how to get stuff done. Keep business cards and always be positive. If in the future you decide to look for work, you can go back those people and see if you can get it in with them. I work in IT and see it done all the time.

Thanks Sunnee! Do you think I should stick with the job I just got for a while then?

Yes, very much so. Use this job as a stepping stone to what you really want to do.
