Just in the newspaper today: Milwaukee has had 39 homicides so far in 2009.

CA: nope, nada. Lived there as a kid, can't possibly be any better. Besides, they're broke(sorry Arnold).

WI: live there now, winters kinda suck. Taxes a freakin' ridiculous for what you get (pay over $5,000/prop. tax). Our smaller publics schools don't get enough support from the wizards in Madison.

VA: been there a few times, love, love, love it. We went last July for two weeks, stayed @ Fords Colony in Williamsburg. Just an excellent area; if I could sell my house I'd move down there tomorrow.

I grew up in NOVA (Falls Church), and you couldn't pay me enough to live there again. The traffic is unbelievably bad - I don't know how people can stand it. It's really a shame, because DC itself is such a great city.

Don't know anything about San Diego, so Milwaukee would be my pick, mainly due to its proximity to Chicago, which is my all-time favorite big city. Lake Michigan is wonderful, too.

San Diego is overated. It is extremely expensive, and is very blighted in certain parts. Sure Milwaukee has some typical urban poverty and crime problems. But unlike San Diego, it doesn't cost much to find a place in a descent area. And Milwaukee does have beaches (summer only).

Doing outdoor activities is the best part about Wisconsin. I'm never in the house when I'm there. All seasons are fun. Fall is beautiful and refreshing. Winter ice and snow are fun for spinning around in, barreling through drifts, plowing, and making tunnels and forts. Spring snow melting, rain, floods and mud are fun to mess around in. Summer is beautiful and green but not too hot. This is fun in the country anyway, maybe not in the city.

bad experience, huh?

This post really isn't fair to the whole state....there are excellent restaurants and outstanding food all over this state. I believe Wisconsin has more than it's fair share of overweight people - there is a reason for that! .
With four distinct seasons, (as another poster explained) there are lots of outdoor activities. You certainly don't have to wear "'50 pounds' of clothes" all Winter! (Cross country skiing comes to mind!).

I only wish our Wisconsin winters didn't last so long!

I live in WI about 3 hours from Milwaukee, and visit there periodically. My brother in law lives in NYC and I also have visited there in summer and winter. Wisconsin winters suck! And it gets worse every year, with less and less sunshine and summer. This week it has been cool and is in the 60's. My brother in law visited in May and he said it was freezing in WI compared to NY. And crime in Milwaukee is pretty bad, just watch their news.
